Marlin baits on YouTube. He is a lure maker, has great videos. In one episode he caught bass on just a plain block of wood with hooks attached

Saw that video!.....very much impressed for a piece of rectangular wood (about 3/4 inch square by 3 1/2" long)....sealed natural wood w/ 2 trebel hooks!.....this would put to shame the $$$ lures in the market!....just to prove that a bass will strike (at anything when given the chance)......but not a crappie!

After watching some snakehead YouTube and how good the fish tastes , I am interesting in trying them. My questions are: 1) Any of you catch them regular? 2) You like the taste?, and 3) How far south can I find them in numbers now? I hear that FL has a strain.. but not clear on that. Any info will be collected and used. Thanks!

Looks like Mudfish to me, (probably the wet rice paddies Far East variety?)....if it is then, I have tasted the "Grilled on a Stick" thinggee....n it is firm, tasty and delicious!.....now my next query would be, how did they
end up as invasive species again?

Thing is I want to go through the whole process from catch to eating. At this point I'm not looking to catch and release.

That might change down the road but I haven't fished enough to do it just for the sake of catching.

You have permission to take a few of Gods fish out of His waters that He created, so that you may feed yourself. The Founders also covered this when they mentioned Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. In this case, Life. You do not need permission (permit) from The Crown, nor should you pay a fee for a license for non-commercial (commerce) fishing. I’ll catch and cook one or two catfish, bluegill, or whatever else i’m blessed enough to harvest in order to feed myself that day., and I’ll thank God for it. Just as the Native Americans and others have done for millennia.

I have fished once in my life and it was when I was a young kid.

I've been really interested in getting into freshwater fishing for a while now. I've just recently gotten to the part of planning an actual trip though and can't seem to understand how to navigate all the regulations.

Most recently I was hoping to fish in Big Sur, but there seems to be no fishing allowed. I was then considering Angeles National Forrest and that is catch and release only. Any tips on how to navigate this for a successful first trip?

TL;DR How do I manage to plan a first trip with all these regulations? Was this difficult for anyone else?
