Sorry, Mike I have never done it.
Probably as cheap to buy dyed tails as to buy dye and go through the hassle. I always buy dyed and use natural as is.
Welcome to the forum.
Good idea.
It sure stains stuff when you do not want it to.
yes I agree what I’ve tried been a pain and it didn’t work I’ve done more research and they say it needs to be boiled with dye and vinegar. To much of a pain
I’ve tried kool aid and rit didn’t work for me.
For any of you guys or gals that that ties. And saves like squirrel or deer tail or any type of fur cover the skin side of the fur with 20 mule team borax you can get it from Walmart it will set the hair and will keep forever and have no smell
How many other species have hollow hair like deer?
Should make excellent floating flys.
Or jigs.
They use deer hair to tie like mice or poppers because it’s hollow it’s called spinning hair on the hook it’s really cool to watch people that are good at it , me I’m not so good at it haha. I can tie a decent crappie jig Or musky buck tail.
I haven’t heard of that dye might work
