(In california/Alameda County) Are you allowed to fish with a friend who has a license while you don't have a license? I looked all over google but couldn't find a straight answer.

If I were you I'd check California's Game and Wildlife state website. If its not clearly stated I'm sure there's a customer service number. At least that's how it works in Massachusetts. I had a question a few weeks ago and couldn't find the answer, so I called and they were very helpful.

I can't speak for CA specifically, but typically, if you're engaged in the process of fishing you need a license. You can physically be there with your friend without a license, but you can't hold a pole or take a fish off a hook.

In California the only place you can fish without a license is on a manmade structure such as a pier, any other location you will require your own license

As others have said you will need your own license. However you can go to a "pay lake", private owned place and pay $5-15 and not need a license. Not a bad deal considering a lot of public lakes still charge a fee even after getting a license.

Nope.

Can't drive a car without a license even if a passenger has a license.

Same deal.

If you are the spectator and not fishermen and there is only one fishing rod being used then there is no need to have a second license as long as you are not doing the fishing or have rod in hand. Think of all the times that a family has taken there kids on a picnic to the lake and the family eats and watches the dad fish does the whole family have a fishing license to watch and eat and the answer is no but if a second person is fishing you do.

Basically, if you are 16 or older in the state of California, you need a fishing license in order to fish, unless you are fishing from a pier.
