I had the same issue on a 200 Johnson, didn't trust the vro so just pulled it off and went back old school mixture. Like you I slept better knowing my motor was safe with oil.

Best advice I can give on a filet knife is make sure its super sharp and get plenty of practice. The sharper it is the easier the work. Just be careful about your fingertips.

Yeah the puma is very hard, but when you do get it sharp it stays that way. I had one you could split hairs with.

If the metal is aluminum there is a no arc Flux core rod you can use . Clean metal well with wire brush , mate the two pieces and apply Flux core rod . It will melt into and over crack welding the damage. Google no arc aluminum Flux core rods. You will need a propane torch. The last time I looked at them you could get a pack for around 10 or 12 bucks.

If its plastic go to your local auto parts and get a box of Q bond . If you still have the broken part you can glue/weld it back together. The Q bond comes with a powder to fill in gaps in the break.

Not to deter you but there is an endless amount of information about fishing you could learn. As long as your having fun doing it that's all that really matters. That being said the simple answer to your question would be an earthworm and a bobber. You can almost always catch some kind of fish on that. When that gets old try something new. You will never run out of new things to learn and try. Good luck and tight lines.

Hey guys been gone a while my old phone decided to up and die. My carrier was not helpful in ordering a new phone. After about six hours on the line over multiple days and no closer to a new phone I told them where to put their service and phones and switched carriers. Finally got a new phone today so I've got a bit of catching up to do.

It's a saltwater fish . Some call it a rockfish. They swim upriver to spawn, some have been stocked in land locked lakes. The best time to catch large ones is winter after water temps drop below 50 .

Thanks for the info. I've got a two blade currently. Have not had issues with weeds yet. Just ran it in some strong current on the river and I wasn't sure if a three blade would give me better bite in the water.
