Back to the 78 Bayliner Victoria I spoke of earlier. The engine bogs down at about half to 3/4 throttle. It picks back up when wide open but I still am missing speed. Should I rebuild my carb or buy a rebuilt on line? Several people have told me to steer clear of online rebuilt carbs. It is a Rochester quadrajet. 350 Volvo Penta engine. What are decent prices for either way I go. This is all so new to me.
A manual and an electric pump. Bypassed the manual pump. Inline filters placed just in front of carb.
Sounds like clogged jets. If you know what you are doing rebuild.
If not take it to someone that does.
Thanks for that. Do u recommend having mine rebuilt or buying a rebuilt and give them my core. Av couple guys have said buying rebuilt online is risky. What is av fair price to have mine rebuilt?

Get one from Summit racing on line they will treat you 100%. They may not be the cheapest but the best I have found. They are not just for racing stuff.
Thanks for that. I am googling them now. Stay safe out there.

Summit racing is a top notch company!
Not cheap but you can bank on the work they do and they will stand behind their work. Pay a little more once and avoid further hassle. I found out the hard way by trying to save a little - caused lots of frustration and time. Went to Summit for a carb that my buddy recommended and its been great for 4 years now.

Doesn’t sound like a carb problem to me. The first thing I would do is pull your fuel line out of the tank and replace the check valve. Easy to do, not expensive and often the problem...

Thanks. I already did the tune up parts. Everything is replaced. Boat runs much better but still bogs be out while throttling up.

Did you check timing. 2-4 degrees can make a big difference.
Check the timing sounds like it needs to be advanced a bit.
Get some Sea Foam, and a couple bottles of Heat.add more than recommended.tgeb go out and run it for a couple hours. Then change the fuel filter. If that doesn't clean it up and fix the problem, then start changing parts. by the time a carb needs rebuilt there wore out.the only moving parts in a carb is the float, and the butter fly's.throttle assembly. The rods going thru the butterfly will leak air over time there's no fix for that. Try the Sea Foam n heat first.
