I boycotted pants, of any type , years ago. Makes for a fun time at the supermarket, but it's the principal!! Plaid shorts are the best here in Florida.
I have a 10 Foot and it's perfect in bays, Lagoons here in Florida and even in open ocean near the inlet on a calm day. BUT , and this is experience and some lost gear talking, if you want to stand and fish you want the 12 footer for sure. Also from experience, be sure you get pedal fins that flex front to back an not side to side when you hit submerged objects or shallow shoals and oyster beds, or you'll be paddling in no time. Sounds complicated but really not. You will have the time of your life my Friend!!! Best tool? Get a metal grabber, you know the picking up trash type. Saves a whole lot of stretching and reaching and makes everything close. Let us know when you pull the trigger and join the Yakers on here.
Gloves and a fishing buff to cover your nose and keep the sun out will help the smell.
It's worked for me in other areas so might be worth a try. Get a little jar of Vix Vaporub and put a little under your nose and then on with your UV buff over your nose and bottom half of your face and you should be good for 3 or 4 hours anyway.
Good luck and keep at it.
Live bait is best but most important is to fish the changing tide and find the trough, just behind the breakers, cast in there and wait.... #2 circle hooks to hold the bait and a 4 or 5 ounce triangle weight at the bottom of your two hook rig are a necessity, unless you're in the Bay areas. Good luck and watch for sharks....really.
Hey, send us a picture of the mounting of trolling motor on the Yak. I've been looking for a proven method for mine. Getting older and the current getting home from Mosquito Lagoon is starting to get tough. Thanks in advance.
I don't know about the fish caller....sounds like a newer version of a Snipe Hunt! LOL
BUT...Has anyone got a link to the knot tie-er you put in your mouth insert line and hook... and like magic it ties the perfect fishing knot? No, really, I saw it on u tube then couldn't find it again. I must have it for my fishing Yak. Help me please somebody!!
I'm not much into supporting shootin" dogs for poor performance any more than I am about shooting one of my employees for poor performance. Would have hated to get a bad report card in your family!! Boom! Done, no more math or "ciphering" to worry about. My guess is unless your deep in Appalachia it's a crime to shoot a dog for that. Unless your going to eat it.
Hammerheads are endangered so glad to hear it was released. That's a breeder for sure.
Karma will insure there points are counted. Good going.
They keep going out before you get a good drag.
Give it another 40 days in the Canaveral, Smyrna and coco region and the mullet will start to slowly run the trough. Gotta fish halfway between low tide going out and high tide coming in. Be sure your casting between the breakers in the trough. Sand fleas or mullet for soaking or wade out and throw some shiny things that move well and you will clean up. Promise.
The Salamander crew has their own lawyers now I see.
I fish New Smyrna Beach every week and have for years. You explained shore fishing better than I've eer read.
Can't add a thing except maybe if you come across or can dig up some live sand fleas to use then you'll be in it for sure. The trough between waves with it flwing out is where they wait for the sand flease and mullet to come flowing out from the beach.
Good luck to the guy asking but you did a super job explaining exactly how he can catch fish first time out.
Only thing better than a good dog is ...is.... well, nothing!
If you are catching and releasing the stress on the fish and possible mouth and Gill damage is far less if you hold by the mouth and support the body with the other hand. Particularly larger fish. It makes reintroduction easier and the fish isn't all stretched out in the gill and mouth area.
Or not.
