Do you fillet or fry whole after scaling, gutting, etc?

Just filleted them up. Going back out this afternoon. Trying to stock the freezer.

waste. scale, trim and chop off the head - "gut" anything else. fry up the whole thing later and rip out the spine you should get almost all the bones with it.

I’ll have to try that next time. I was thinking of doing just that only brining them for a few hours then throwing them on the smoker. Thanks for the tip.

I've been thinking of keeping a few bluegill, I never have before. Do you have a minimum size you consider 'worth it' to keep?

Generally I go by the size of my hand. If it’s around there or bigger I keep it.

Never tried smoking bluegill. Are they any good? I know they're good sauted.

When I see that pile of Bluegill …. I see wonderful bait for catfishing …. one of their favorite meals. Never ate Bluegill, not that I wouldn't, I'm a catch and release guy unless I use it for bait. I hear Bluegill are very tasty. Enjoy
I tried smoking them but there so darn hard to lite.
They keep going out before you get a good drag.
