Obviously I can’t get live bait right now and I’ve only been saltwater fishing from shore once using dead bunker as bait and caught a Black Sea bass and a flounder. I’m probably going to be fishing the surf and have no experience with this so what lures should I order? I have a kastmaster, and might order a spook or yo zuri crystal minnow if those are good ideas. Also if anybody has any tips or spots to saltwater fish on LI because I’ve never been

Find the structure and fish it. Nobody is going to spotburn, especially when half of the spots are closed.

White bucktail is always going to work.

Pretty much this. Drive around and see if any beaches are open. Look at navionics maps to find structure.

bucktail with some gulp could yield striper and/or fluke

look harder for bait, shops are around doing curbside. what do you think your targeting? Id get some bunker swimbaits in at least 2 sizes. i preffer spoons like the krocodile ones. SP minnow in bone or black.

highly recommend you fish incoming tide vs outgoing

I’m trying to target striper, fluke, maybe bluefish if they’re there but I’ve heard there’s been a lackluster amount of blues right about now

I like white buck tails and white swim baits. You also can fish blood worms or sand worms. For fishing lures I like jetties or some kind of inlet with current movement . Incoming tides are the best. In the Hudson River i like about one hour before and 2 hours after high tide. Right know the bite off of beacon is pretty good during the incoming tide. I usually don’t fish a out going tide unless I’m fishing the rip out at sandy hook. You can still catch fish on an outgoing just not as good as incoming

Just in case the bluefish swing up your way buy at least one tin squid with the rubber tail green or red.
Get it heavy enough so you can cast it far. If you use bait use clams or worms. Good luck and have fun.

Buy frozen squid in a supermarket, clean it and cut in 4 to 6 inch long triangular strips. Great bait for fluke aka summer flounder.

Best all-round lure I've found is the Luckycraft surf pointer - available at Amazon. It'll catch whatever is out there that eats other fish.

True everything eats shrimp and live is best they will eat cut bait as well or blood worms they only use crank bait to catch blues here or maybe it’s called a jig early morning later evenings and night is better here in NC depends on where you are

The hammered metal spoon such as a HOPKINS is an excellent choice for the surf. Keep it up off the bottom for striped bass and blue fish or hop it a long the bottom for fluke ( summer flounder). The cheaper knockoffs are a more prudent choice due to snags, and they work just as well. If there are blue fish around, use a wire leader, it’ll help with the blue fish. On the other hand if you’re fishing at dawn or dusk stick with a monofilament leader. Striped bass shy away from the steel leaders.
The further east you go the better the fishing is, usually. Good luck.
