Yes, it is a skate. The wing portions are eatable. If you have ever purchased bay scallops, which are all perfectly round and the size size, they were most likely punched skate wing not scallops. Lots of the wings are shipped overseas for resale. They are all over the Chesapeake Bay and close to the Atlantic shoreline. They will eat just about any bait and fight very hard.

[quote=Kerry Hansen]I got plenty of beans , cukes, and Zucchini, but only green tomatoes on bushes over 4' tall (15)[/quote

Add calcium at planting time and to feed them thru the growing season— aids in growth and prevents “black spot, Blossom end rot ”. They do best in good sun light, a shady area stunts their growth and the firming of fruit.

I am overrun with tomatoes! The Lemon Boy yellow tomato is the best tasting one of the four kinds that I planted—much milder than the red or purple ones.

Get the matching rod for your Penn Battle 4000 reel. It should have come as a combo offer when you purchased the rod. Would have cost only $20.00 more than the purchase price of the reel.

We call them “high-low bottom rigs.

It is a gig. We sometimes walk the flats at low tide gigging flounder with it.

I just use my 7' light rod and no problem reeling in some 20" flounder. I prefer 10 or 12 lb braid with a 2' fluro leader.

Depending where you are going if in NC check to see if the location is legal to keep. In this part of NC not legal until 8/18 thru 9/30.

North Carolina has had a ban on taking Flounder/Fluke since last fall.

Do not bring the lure up close to the rod tip; let it hang down six or more inches. That makes it somewhat like a slingshot and will add great distance to the cast.

I totally agree with the FB/FG knot because it ties the thinest knot joint. It is a little difficult to learn to tie properly, but once you have tied it a few times it becomes second nature to tie.

the ugly stick is all right for casting but if you hook up the tip is too "soft" ,you want a bend in the rod below that, closer to the middle ,you are fighting the fish rather than the fish fighting you.Penn makes a good rod,so does Daiwa, I don't care for Daiwa reels though.Look for a medium action rod in the 6'6' or 7 ft range.Holding the rod with your right hand, lay the tip on the floor upside down and apply pressure.look for the bend in the rod
if it's bending at the tip and not close to the middle you have a dog.

That is called a “fast action tip” and does a lot for hooking the fish. Because the tip is more flexible you will notice the bite long before the fish starts to run with the bait. I think that the rod you are describing is better suited to trolling or fishing with heavy sinkers.

My wife is dying of cancer, this helps me to understand why she asks to go for a ride once in a while. She only has a couple of weeks, if she makes it that long; her goal in what is left in her life is to make it to our 55th wedding anniversary on July 23rd.

BassPro has a Shakepeare Ugly Stik USSP902M nine foot rod.

I bought one for Surf fishing along the Outer BankS , North Carolina.

Depends on the size of the frog. But, yea, I would throw frogs on it. The best part about the baitcaster is that you could cast it farther than a spinning reel.

I do believe that you are wrong about casting further with a baitcaster reel. You have all those small line guides that the line has to go through and a level wind That begins to slow the line Down as soon as you ease the pressure of your thumb on the spool. Meanwhile your thumb is feathering the spool the entire time the line is being cast out!
