Striper bait rod

Any recommendations for a spinning rod that can cast cut bait and a few ounces of weight a large distance. I have shorter heavier rods but they aren’t apt for casting. Thanks in advance

I have an ugly stick 10 foot med heavy action rod for surf fishing. I routinely slung 4oz flat or pyramid sinkers with chunks of bunker on it no problem

Where did you find that? I couldn’t find a medium heavy gx2 longer than 7ft online.

I have had good luck getting setups from these guys. Safely shipped in a solid tube.

Just make sure you have a lure weight of 2 - 4 ozs or 3 - 6 ozs. An 8' to 9'er would be great.

Look at Walmart for the Daiwa Sealine surf rod - I have the 11 foot 2piece light power rod. Nice.
If you don't mind spending a little more, Lamiglas has an excellent selection of surf rods and steelhead rods that will work very well in the surf.

All my surf rods are built on Lamiglas gsb blanks, but they are not in the ugly stick price range. St Croix also makes some very good surf rods that are rated in the 4 to 12 ounce range .

BassPro has a Shakepeare Ugly Stik USSP902M nine foot rod.

I bought one for Surf fishing along the Outer BankS , North Carolina.

the ugly stick is all right for casting but if you hook up the tip is too "soft" ,you want a bend in the rod below that, closer to the middle ,you are fighting the fish rather than the fish fighting you.Penn makes a good rod,so does Daiwa, I don't care for Daiwa reels though.Look for a medium action rod in the 6'6' or 7 ft range.Holding the rod with your right hand, lay the tip on the floor upside down and apply pressure.look for the bend in the rod
if it's bending at the tip and not close to the middle you have a dog.

South Bend also makes a decent 8 ft and 9 ft rod called the Black Beuty for not a whole lot of money (under 50 bucks I believe, a much faster action rod than the ugly stik - it's eglass. I've got one I've had for years, use to use it for catfish, but it would work well in the surf, depends on what you're fishing for.

That is called a “fast action tip” and does a lot for hooking the fish. Because the tip is more flexible you will notice the bite long before the fish starts to run with the bait. I think that the rod you are describing is better suited to trolling or fishing with heavy sinkers.
