As kids we used to use them for fish an frogs lol now I just use a flashlight and my hands for frogs.

That is a spear we used to use for hug carp in the march. It's not a saltwater spear. The big carp were smoked by some people so we sold them to those who smoked them. Some weighed 30 pounds and were very strong
so it took a heavy duty spear. We used to get them during the spawn.

very popular here on the gulf coast of florida. the good one are made from stainless lag bolts. barbed gigs hold fish on but are hard to pull off. so we use the lag bolts because it makes things easier. also they have to be stainless salt water is hard on metals.

google flounder gigging and it will make more sense. you tube some videos there cool to watch. fall is best because the flounder make a run to the passes and head to the gulf to breed for the winter.
