Mornin Mike,
Wonderdog let me sleep in today. Am guessing that is a skate I read from these folks, or I am a real SUCKER...

Yes, it is a skate. The wing portions are eatable. If you have ever purchased bay scallops, which are all perfectly round and the size size, they were most likely punched skate wing not scallops. Lots of the wings are shipped overseas for resale. They are all over the Chesapeake Bay and close to the Atlantic shoreline. They will eat just about any bait and fight very hard.

Good Morning guy's,
Skate, stingray and a couple others. I've heard rumors of people
cutting out scallop's from their wings. I would be careful removing
the hook, they do have teeth.

Plus they are part of the shark family. They also have things around
their mouth that gives off electrical charges to stun their pray.

Mr. Gordon & Flytier,
Good thing we don't see them on restaurant menus, we would really be confused.

I will go along with the majority, but it sure looks like a sting ray to me. We have sting rays in the Gulf Coast and they are dangerous to wade fishermen. If you are wading and do not slide your feet along and are simply stepping along, you will have the opportunity to step on a sting ray and get a stab wound in your foot or ankle. these spines are at/near the base of the tail and the varmit is quite successful in whipping it around to puncture one's foot or ankle and send you to the hospital with a very painful wound. Well there are only over 500 different types of skates, so good luck narrowing it down. But the tail tells the tale. Stingrays have long tails with barbs that they can whip. Skates have much shorter tails as seen here. And yes they have electric organs Zoey and it seems no one seems to know why. But in their mouths?

Do they fight hard? Well they sure to tug hard, not much of a fight though. Can you eat em? Well, they're not poisonous.

They do fight hard, you can eat them , people just cut the wings off, throw body and tail away. They used to be a real nuisance on NJ coast but haven't seen one yet this Summer. Just Sea Robins

If it’s a salt water ray, they can’t be harvested in S Florida
