Go look at the YouTube posts for cleaning carp. I personally don’t care for the taste but some people I know do. Like any other fish look at the quality of the water it lives in.

There’s no fish in the trees. That was my biggest problem when learning to fly fish. Had there been fish in the trees I would have limited often.

All kinds of store bought fish contain pcb and mercury. Avoid fishing near industrial areas or big cities and your chances get a lot better. In pa the fish consumption advisory lists carp and catfish a lot. Not that l would eat a carp anyway.

Also might want to make sure your pond doesn’t have snapping turtles. 2 years ago l walked around my pond to check the bass nests during breeding time. All the bass guarding the nests had large white bruises on their heads. Came back at night with a flash lite and spotted a 25 pound snapper harassing the fish.

Fatheads and golden shiners are the forage fish in my tiny pond along with the constantly breeding bluegills. Some people overthink this stocking business. As long as you stick with bass sunfish and channel cats you really can’t go wrong. Now that’s all assuming your water quality is good and oxygen levels can maintain the the amount fish present. I had to install a sump pump type fountain set on a timer to run four hours a day to keep the oxygen levels up. That is why you sometimes see ponds with only frogs and turtles.

You got that right. Sometimes they will furnish some fish, and or give you a list of providers to help you stock.

What’s a decent size pond. Mine is 40by 60 ft. Bass and bluegill will regulate each other but l have to take a lot of fish out every year. My pond is very small but it amazes me how many fish it will support. I initially stocked fathead minnows and golden shiners but they all disappeared.

There so many options it’s hard to say what is best all around. I can wear neoprene when it’s a little warm but they are great in cold water. I personally prefer stocking foot waders and shoes like corkers with felt if your wading in slippery fast water. If it’s just a small shallow area hip boots are all you need. When it’s warm out cold water feels pretty good so shorts and sneakers are fine.

Pumpkinseed sunfish

I have both bluegill and pumpkinseed in my small pond. It looks more colorful than my bluegill and not orange enough to be a pumpkinseed. I hope that vast amount of scientifically advanced knowledge helps.

I always use go jo from the auto parts store. Don’t wash it off just wipe it off with a towel when fishing. When your done for the day wash and rinse and that’s all there is to it.

Experimenting is the key. Sometimes you go out and get skunked only to find the fish are hitting the least likely lure or holding at a different depth than expected. Come prepared and get ready to change your game . Don’t waste time doing things that aren’t working.

Take one of those 3 inch bluegills put it on a bigger hook and cast it out a lot farther and see what happens. Bass love small bluegills. Check your local fishing regs to make sure that’s legal there.
