I never seem to catch anything. Any suggestions?

I need help.

I got fishing frequently but I rarely catch any fish that are worth mentioning. I don't have a boat so I am stuck fishing from the bank. I can usually catch tiny bluegill pretty easily because they are right next to the bank but beyond that I never catch much.

When catching bluegill, I use a bobber with a splitshot about 12 inches down and a hook another 12 inches or so. I put a small hook on the end and put 1-1.5" pieces of night crawler on the hook. This works pretty well but like I said I never catch much beyond the 3-4 inch little guys, and that's only when I cast relatively near shore, if I cast out more than say 10 feet or so i usually don't get any bites.

The other rigs I have used are the hi lo rig, and the slip sinker rig. I sometimes catch small white perch on the hi lo rig and once I caught a small catfish. Hooks on the hi lo rig are baited with nightcrawlers. I cast out as far as I can and then I reel it in slowly.

As far as the slip sinker rig, I cant seem to get a single bite with that rig. I use nightcrawlers or cut bluegill, and I cast it out and just wait for a bite. Never had any luck in the last 4 or so months trying it.

I love fishing and I will continue to try regardless of what I catch because I just love being out there, but what am I doing wrong? If anyone has any suggestions I am all ears! Thanks!

Also, I should say that i am in Maryland and I typically fish a reservoir nearby

Try an inline spinning lure or twisty tail grub with out without an under spin. White and/or green are good colors.

If theres not too much to get hung on, cut about an inch or two off a plastic finesse worm and hook it on to one of your favorite colored rooster tails, cast and reel. Its caught me many of large and small fish

I catch 2+ foot gar from the bank, you just gotta know where to fish and how to get different fish. I recommend YouTube I want it a lot and learn a lot about fishing

I think I would try different places to fish. Keep trying until you find one that produces. Crawlers are excellent bait.

Take one of those 3 inch bluegills put it on a bigger hook and cast it out a lot farther and see what happens. Bass love small bluegills. Check your local fishing regs to make sure that’s legal there.

you can use a bigger weight or bober to get out farther also try finding a point that you can walk out to deeper water , you can look for a clear bober at store a tear drop tie your mainline to bigger end and leader with fly on pointed end big and flashy then your fly fishing if you don't catch at one spot try another youll catch more the more you try good luck halibut,
