Does any1 know where to get started in stocking a pond

Got a decent sized pond with nothing but frogs. I was wondering if anybody has any tips or info for stocking some?

You should start with blue gills to populate it fish some species first since they arent hard to take care of. Next get babycatfish and and bass... so forth

I'd call the conservation officer and see if they will come out and check it out. May be some program that can help you out. If not at least they will get you lined up for success.

You can be fined if you stock fish without a permit, talk to your local dnr (department of natural resources) first.

Forsure check the legality and don’t steal from peoples private ponds or anything. But I would prob just try to catch some fish, put em in a live well and transfer em to your pond

An "empty" pond is my dream project. Definitely consult a knowledgeable person to help evaluate what your pond is capable of handling. For your consideration.... size (acreage), depth, hidden cover, bottom type (rocky ? mud ? sandy ?, mixed ?), bankside vegetation, water-level consistentcy, does it freeze over, is the surrounding drainage "safe" to leach from ? Lots of factors to consider, along with getting a balance of species to sustain itself years down the road. Talk to your local county extension office, they'll steer you in the right direction. They will also know of programs that may get you stocked for little to no cost.
PS: I assume you have tried valiantly to catch something, no ? Thanks to birds, your pond may have more than frogs already...... I'm guessing you didn't stock them, huh ? LOL !

Contact the folks who are responsible for checking your fishing license, ie: dept. of game and fish or dept. of natural resources etc. They can help out with legality questions and suggest types and amounts of fish to stock also when to stock said fish.

You can get valuable info from your local soil and water conservation people . They should be able to tell you #'s and species per acre.

You got that right. Sometimes they will furnish some fish, and or give you a list of providers to help you stock.

What’s a decent size pond. Mine is 40by 60 ft. Bass and bluegill will regulate each other but l have to take a lot of fish out every year. My pond is very small but it amazes me how many fish it will support. I initially stocked fathead minnows and golden shiners but they all disappeared.

Fatheads and rubyreds are cheap at pet stores or bait shops, they will multiply quickly in a pond with no fish ! They also eat mosquito larvae big plus !
