I've fished in WV for cat fish and SM Bass below the Bluestone Dam using soft shells for bait every time the only thing I caught was carp.

Sweet corn on Carolina rig and bolt rigs are hard to beat. You should also learn to tie a hair rig. Boilies are great baits too. Boilies can be made to sink or float and are great on a hair rig. Carping can be simple or highly technical. Dough made from flour, corn meal, sugar and vanilla extract or garlic powder is good bait too. Keep your hooks on the small side. Size 8-4 are good but even a #1 bait holder works too. Good luck.

Dollar store bagels work great here in Philly,Pa. Ball em up with a bit of salvia to make a small pellet. Says on the hook too. Oh, and marinade with garlic salt and powder.

I was fishing with my brother-in-law's Dad and all we had caught were carp, and I was fish hungry and he said he had never eaten carp. He had always given them to the folks in town, they seemed to like them.

So he cleaned the smallest one and we fried it up and I'm here to tell you it was one of the best fish I have ever eaten.
