Welcome to the Stage. I live in Hopkins county. Back in the 80s Providence New City lake produce good size bass early in the year when you've had a few warm days in a row. It is a smaller lake and warms up a little quicker. I haven't been there in years but good luck if you go.

Caught a 35lb grass carp earlier this year while fishing for rainbow trout. Ultralight and 6lb test line. What a fight!!!

Yes sir. I boil gills after cleaning them. I cut the fins off, skin them, cut the heads off and gut them, rinse them off. I boil them whole after that. Flake all that good meat off the bones and use a crab cake recipe to cook them.

Does anyone else boil bluegill fillets. We call it poor boys crab 😁. Probably no healthier way to eat fish. Not counting the dipping it in melted butter. Just wondered if others boiled some of their fish. This came about for me on a day out that turned into a day and a half. Had to eat 😁. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ on

When I was a kid the neighbor took me fishing for carp. We caught a few. He combined the smoking and canning. He gave some to my mother. Better than salmon patties!!!

I'm 67 and live in western ky. $12 is a small price to pay for the senior fishing and hunting combo license. It's better than a sportsman non senior license which is a lot more.

I was trout fishing with ultralight and 6lb test line. Hooked this grass carp by the tail. I know what you mean by a fight. Took about 30min to get him in.

You know the old saying.
B-bust
O-out
A-another
T-thousand

Just think of it as money well spent!

Punch bait has fiber in it so it will stick to a bare treble hook better. I use dip bait. You use a treble hook with a tube that has holes in it to hold the bait. I use a paint stir stick to push the hook and tube down in the dip bait. Wrap it up in a walmart bag after your done. If you decide to try it, get Triple SSS blood dip bait.

Looks a lot like what we called skipjack caught in the Missouri River when I was a kid growing up in St. Charles Missouri. Part of the shad family.

Mike,
The guys I catfish with when we fish with liver we use a circle hook and sewing thread. After getting the liver sort of on the hook, start winding the thread up by the eye if the hook. Start tight and lighten up on it as you work your way down. I've cast liver that way with a 2oz sinker as far as I could and it doesn't come of. Those are some great looking cats.

I caught a 14 + inch Bluegill from the W.K. Kellogg Bird sanctuary outside of Battle Creek Michigan. Had to spud a second hole next to the one I had the fish hooked in and then join the holes to get it out ! They only let Scout troops fish there in the Winter time thru the Ice.

When I worked at a factory back in the 80s a man named Phil Conyers caught a bluegill that weighed a little over 4lbs. That bluegill was black and round like a skillet. I believe it is still the Kentucky state record.

Good catch Pete, I had to go back and find it, flew right by the first time.

For fishing for the catfish try Triple S dip bait using a tube, #6 treble hook and a slip sinker rig. This stink bait is the best I've ever used. I've caught catfish in Febuary on it in 25 acre lakes.
