Tried a small pond this morning. Not much as a bite so I moved to another spot.
First cast had a small bass follow the small spoon. That's promising. After some more casting I thew out to the middle. Wham! I got hit than a big splash. Wow this thing is a tank pulling drag and fighting like a beast. Pulling drag hard than all of sudden line is slack. Rats came off. I reel in and the fish is still there. Great she swam right at me. The fight is still on. Slows down to a crawl. What is on the line? a turtle comes to mind.
I just keep reeling the thing starts in again pulling and fighting. Quick loosen the drag so not to break off. After
five minutes I got it in close enough to see it. Big carp hooked in the tail. Comes a little bit closer but then it took off again on a big run.
Worked hard to get it back to shore but the fish was on so long the hook made a big hole and finally came out.
At least I got to see it. Fish was north of 15 pounds maybe more.
That was the closest I got to getting a fish this weekend.
It still counts as a fish π
You didn't land him, but the thrill is there!

Cool catch and great story Greenfrog!
Another one that got away story which I'll never forget. Well that's fishing.
I was trout fishing with ultralight and 6lb test line. Hooked this grass carp by the tail. I know what you mean by a fight. Took about 30min to get him in.
