Catfish ..?!

Hey y'all .! I'm recently retired and ready to start enjoying the beauty of the area that I'm proud to call my forever home.! (Weaverville) My husband and I LOVE fishing, camping, the outdoors .! He's a disabled veteran, there's nothing that I wouldn't do to make him happy. So I'm praying that there might be special spot or two that I can surprise him with. I just want him to smile and light up the way he used to when we fished before his health began to decline. I believe your state of mind (happiness) is essential to healing and good health in general.. So I am asking y'all if there is anywhere that I might be able to take him for some good fishing (shore, we don't have a boat) but I'm willing to rent once I learn the area a little better.
Sincerely appreciate any & all input.!
God bless & thank you.
Now where is a good spot for catfishing.?

I wish luck in you quest! He’s a lucky guy to have a wife like you! May you and your hubby have nothing but success! Good luck and be safe!!

Welcome to the Stage Bug! There was another member on here a week or so ago asking about cat fishing up that way. I don't remember the name of the post or who posted it (sorry I'm old). But maybe that will ring a bell for someone else? Good luck to you, post some pics when you get a chance, and thank YOU for your service as well as your husband's. We would never make it without our spouses. Believe it.

Shasta Lake, just north of Redding has pretty good catfishing, its about an hour drive from Weaverville, I lived in the area for about 40 years until I couldn't take the politics any longer, good luck to you

Nothing wrong with catfish, especially catfish from a big clear water lake like Shasta or Trinity. Steelhead can be fun, I'll grant you, but they are seasonal, there are a ton of regulations you have to know about, and unless you really know what you're doing you need a guide. Catfish are much more readily available target and you latch into a 12 or 15 pounder you won't be missing the steelhead. And your chances of catching one of those are much better than a 10 pound steelhead. IMO.

That is true, Steelies can be the fish of a thousand casts. I'm down here in SoCal so I can't be of much help.

I kinda read into theBug's post that she's looking for a place to kick back and do some shore fishing. Those four lakes right by Weaverville (Trinity, Lewistown, Whiskeytown and Shasta) are probably exactly what she's looking for. I just have never fished any of them, but that is some gorgeous country up there. There are some rivers up there that are famous for their steelhead runs, but if she and the vet are up for that, I'd hire a guide. They can put you on the fish and make a fantastic day of it. And just a little east of Weaverville is Redding, some of the best rainbow trout fishing in the world.
