I apologize Heather! I read this in the top section where it said upcoming topics. I don't want to be a wet blanket, have your fun. I am just an old fisherman.
Amusing but there is nothing to do with fishing in it. Too much of this stuff and this is just another chat room.
Off the subject but still speaking of Garcia Mitchell reels: I have two old G.M. 304 reels that I bought for my wife and I in 1966 as a cheap combo. I was in the air force in Texas and the BX sold them. Both of them have broken crank handles now. They are aluminum with left hand threads. I might want to fix them for nostalgic reasons. Can anyone tell me if there is a place that might still have old parts?
The other people have covered the subject well, but I want to add my opinion. Bass always strike as a surprise with a bit of a charge. They don't always fight harder than other fish but sometimes they jump and throw your hardware back at you. Also in some waters they are the biggest most reliable fish there and they take a variety of baits or lures. Fishing is sport and to each his own.
Brings back good memories! Glad you had a great day and thanks for sharing the pictures.
Like Bottom said this is a little early. I haven't fished Grenada in years but my cousin's husband does. He fishes with a fly rod using streamers I believe on the spillway. Also I think he catches striped bass there.
Terrific job! Too pretty to be thrown around for some fish to attack. I am sure they will though.
I have lived in Texas, California, Washington, Pennsylvania, Mississippi and Alabama and known many good people in all those states. Even in Viet Nam there were good people. People are just people everywhere good ones & bad ones. All of them had some good fishing just different. Fished Canyon and Medina lakes in Texas.
Good ones Ronnie. There must be too much cold and snow over there to enjoy fishing on the Tenn-Tom.
We are a long way from Maryland. The owner is very difficult to get permission from. I lived here for 6 years before he gave me permission. It has a lot of weed and grass that makes for problems hanging up. But I know you are joking. Alabama does have a lot of good lakes and rivers.
Fishing in a pond I enjoy jug fishing. Set out several and chase them in my kayak.
Thank you for the report and pictures of your family fishing trip. I once lived in California and caught rock cod at pigeon point lighthouse using abalone guts for bait. I hope your next trip is very successful.
No we were using spin casting tackle. Nothing too fancy, just cheap stuff but it works well. I used Cane pole in my handle because that was the way I started fishing many years ago. We were using plastic worms and casting around a lot of weeds. I remember my Grandmother catching small mouth bass from a creek using a cane pole with minnows for bait. She was the most patient and successful fisher woman I ever knew.
She did have fun. I was glad she caught the most fish, 4 to my 1 - the smallest one!
My grand daughter was home for the holidays and wanted to go fishing. Last Wednesday we found weather and time in agrement and went to the neighbor's pond. In about 45 minutes we caught 5 bass and had a lot more strikes. No records for sure but they were eager. The pond is overstocked so we kept them all for a fish dinner. The fish are small for their age and have no fat. The population of bass is too high and they are having trouble finding enough food. We will continue helping reduce the problem.
