Glad you are back in action! Have the smallies been warned?
Woodguru, I read your comment to him, he gave me that look that says that sounds like bs to me…. Lol
I don’t know if he really likes being in the kayak, or if it’s just being with me… he’s been my buddy for over 13 years.
Went out on the kayak for a few hours checking out my “fish finder” ( check picture) . He pointed to a stick up and I tossed my chartreuse crappie jig by it, expecting to connect with a crappie. Well, I found out my “fish finder” wasn’t programmed species specific. I had a lot of fun getting the largemouth bass close enough to net her. Which I did and after a quick photo she was back into the water.
I bought a Kershaw when I flew to AK in 2019, drove back with my brother. I carry it every day. At 69 I have owned a lot of knives. This is by far the best steel I have ever owned… occasionally use a ceramic stick, it still will shave clean.
Don’t fish where the fish are
Pic is me with my dad. About 64 years back. I had a great teacher!
Best: 1 crappie from Sardis lake,MS 2 flathead catfish from Spring River, AR
Worst- channel cat ,old hickory lake,TN
Ever need a little ballast for the boat , let me know… fishing with a buddy is almost always better
Every chance I get. Recently purchased a kayak for fun and fishing ( sorry for being redundant). I have seen some small farm ponds from the road, but here they seem to develop a coating of algae or something. I’m in the Gallatin area. A few places to fish from the bank on Old Hickory lake.

I grew up fishing with my mom and dad who had a passion for the sport. We didn’t have much stuff, but we were a family and enjoyed the time fishing, whether on a farm pond, a river bank or on rare occasions a small lake shore. In 60 yrs I’ve accumulated more gear than I new there could be all those years ago. I’m now located in north middle Tennessee. If I can help in any way, I’d be glad to! I mostly like to chase bass, bluegill, and crappie, and what else might be biting if they aren’t.
In the 60’s (maybe even before) Luhr-Jensen made a Hot Shot that had a short bill which made for short side to side movement. As a kid fishing with my dad, it was my favorite from his box. Caught my first 4# largemouth on a white one trimmed in red and specked with gold flecks. They later madE the lips longer , significantly changing the action. Today they are mostly used for Steele heads I think.
Medium-light action fly rod, level wt. floating line, about 3’ 12lb test mono leader, #6 gold eagleclaw loaded with a catalpa worm.
Texas-rigged 7” red shad Culprit
Nice cat. IMO flatheads are the best tasting. They are not garbage feeders like other catfish, they eat live things! Oh the catfish you ate in Jackson TN was most likely farm raised channel catfish. I’m in TN and have caught channel and flathead from the same water. Wife said throw all channel back, but keep the flatheads after comparing them! Smart Lady, she was!
