Need to know the capacity of the bars and the vehicle. I wouldn't do it with a brand new car. I've hauled mine on top of the Honda van and the Subaru Outback, but not nearly as nervous now that I use a trailer.

See the photo in today's "beach" post from Eyecrosser. That would make a nice boat warming present, and I'm pretty sure it floats.

Do you enjoy fishing or do you enjoy catching? We all hit the water for different reasons. Do what makes you happy, as long as you do no harm to others.

Where are you from in NE WI?
I do a lot of fishing about as far NE as one can get in WI.

Fox Valley area - basically grew up on the Fox River running through Appleton. I still really enjoy the urban fishing, though I need to get up at 4 am in the spring and summer to find the solitude that was common before all the development.

Great question. It may be available at a Half Priced Books store, too. I saw the original version released by Fishing Facts Magazine for sale, but $25 seems pretty steep to me. I see there is a new version as well, but a lot more. Search for the knot as there are some nice illustrations as to how to tie the knot. The Palomar knot is extremely strong, but it can be too big (in my opinion) for some live bait presentations in clear water. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Wow, thanks for the "blast from the past" OJ. It sounds like I grew up in WI about the same time you did. I was obsessed with Fishing Facts when I was a kid, but I had almost forgotten about my Lunkers Love Nightcrawlers book. That book was probably the reason for all those spring and summer nights crawling around in the backyard with a flashlight in my mouth.

I did exactly that this winter. You will probably need to fabricate something (PVC T setup?) to hold the transducer level in the hole.

Lots of variables will make this a very personal decision. I can throw my 40 pound 10 footer wherever I want it, but I really don't enjoy trying to get my 85 pound fishing kayak on top of the minivan.

Tungsten jigs really help because they're more dense and drop quicker - you can maintain feel and control your bait better. Regular jigs can work, but keep things smaller than what you would use in the summer.

Lots of positive comments about the Garmin on this board. I just used mine for the first time ice fishing this last week and it was a game-changer. I can't speak to any comparison with the Lowrance though.

This is what we call a rock bass in Wisconsin. Apparently the same in West Virginia, since this was provided by their DNR. As Viking said, red eyes.

Where can you view it?[/quote

Fox Sports Network channels, for sure. The website looks about 2 shows behind
Oh, and to clarify Zoey's comment - DON'T GO OUT WITHOUT A PADDLE! You shouldn't need one 80% of the time (though some moves are much easier paddle vs. pedal), but you could be in big trouble for the other 20%.

That particular photo is a Perception Pescador Pilot 12.0 - in the same color I purchased a couple years ago. I was sure it was going to change my life as I used the pedals to control my position and fish moving water in a way not possible with my paddle kayak. In short, it rarely works out that way. Granted I purchased one of the early units, but the pedal drive and the rudder assembly are not particularly well-built. At 84 pounds without the drive, it's a bugger to get on and off the top of a vehicle - if you even want that kind of weight up there. When just cruising with friends I can catch up to them quickly with the pedal drive - which is a good thing because it's not uncommon to get completely fouled with weeds and require an extended effort to clear out. To be honest, I usually grab my 10 foot ($200) bargain kayak to hit the river now and question why I purchased the $1800 Cadillac.
