Will it make a huge difference if I ice fish with regular summer time jig heads? I don't have any of the short shanked tear drop head ice fishing jigs right now

Tungsten jigs really help because they're more dense and drop quicker - you can maintain feel and control your bait better. Regular jigs can work, but keep things smaller than what you would use in the summer.
