What kinda outfit is this, wonder if you could fish from it. What would you do with a fish if wanted to keep it. How is it in rough water. How many ways can you propel it. Are they very heavy. Are some better than others. What are some handy gadgets to have with it.

Good Morning Mr. Mike,
We don't know a lot about these but have looked into them. We like liked the one that have peddles or similar where you put your feet. They are faster and you don't need paddles which take more work to get around. Plus they have some made for fishing, rod holders and stuff. Plus you can put a small motor on them.

Zoey:)

Mike that is a yak that i would love to have. Looks like a Hobie pedal power model handles well in the 2' chop from what i have seen. Juts put a cooler in the back and you are good to go. As for the weight i am guessing just short of 100lbs. As for gadgets you name it it can be added to it. Rod holders and fishfinder are easy add ons.

Looking at it again that just may be a battery operated prop in the center. With a paddle for a back up this would be on my Christmas list just in case Randy reads this.

Bow logo indicates it is a Perception Kayak. Great ‘made in America’ company.

Do they have Big screen TV for the Yaks yet? You could see a Nascar Race while fishing and getting your pedaling in. We were fishing the Jaws...where the Bay meets the Surf fishing for salmon in Motorboats with boats everywhere....then there is two or three old dudes pedaling 20 or so long huge yaks with all sorts of do dads.

That’s one of those tippy things with no room for the cooler of beer.

That particular photo is a Perception Pescador Pilot 12.0 - in the same color I purchased a couple years ago. I was sure it was going to change my life as I used the pedals to control my position and fish moving water in a way not possible with my paddle kayak. In short, it rarely works out that way. Granted I purchased one of the early units, but the pedal drive and the rudder assembly are not particularly well-built. At 84 pounds without the drive, it's a bugger to get on and off the top of a vehicle - if you even want that kind of weight up there. When just cruising with friends I can catch up to them quickly with the pedal drive - which is a good thing because it's not uncommon to get completely fouled with weeds and require an extended effort to clear out. To be honest, I usually grab my 10 foot ($200) bargain kayak to hit the river now and question why I purchased the $1800 Cadillac.

Oh, and to clarify Zoey's comment - DON'T GO OUT WITHOUT A PADDLE! You shouldn't need one 80% of the time (though some moves are much easier paddle vs. pedal), but you could be in big trouble for the other 20%.

I dunno how you can sit in one position for two or three or longer hours
in a yak
give me a 16 foot or larger fishing boat(at least I can move around a lil)
of course I'm old and have a very bad back

bb sitting is not for me either. I stand 99% of the time. Got to look for the swirls in the water, the slaps from trout biting, and looking at a distance is far easier while standing.

So while i am still a young 69 i will go with the flow as long as i can. Then a nice jon boat will be my calling.

I should probably start a new post, but since we're talking about em - I am seriously looking for a tandem yak with a transom that will take an electric motor. Priorities are the first two, tandem and transom. After that weight and stability. Anybody?
