I’ve started learning a lot of knots and was wondering what you favourite line to lure knot is. My personal favourite is the Trilene knot because I can tie it when my hands are cold.

Google Shaw Grigsby strongest fluorocarbon knot . I don’t think anyone knows what the name of this thing is. I thought it was San Diego jam but it’s not
Started using this a couple years ago and it is seriously strong.
Can’t tie it with cold hands though. I can’t tie my shoes when my hands are cold.

Gentlemen, I am sorry but even though i know how to tie a lot of different knots, I really don't know the names of any. But just for you to think about, how about using a snap to connect to your lure, that way you can change lures easily without tying a new know each time you change and it also saves at least a foot of leader! Now, of courxe you want to shorten the leader if you notice it being knicked or frazzeled. Just Sayin..RJS

I have been using the Crawford knot for almost 50 years. I learned it from a book called Lunkers Love Nightcrawlers. That book changed my fishing life.

I’ll second that Palomar knot. Or double Palomar.

I too have a encyclopedia of knots, from small up to rope size. I seldom pay any attention to the knots, due to being that I have used them for so long, but Jeremiah, my grand nephew, age 8 is enthralled by them, so we go over them and sometimes take a piece of cord and practice. He loves anything about fishing or nautical. Just Sayin...RJS

I learned the "Snell Knot" in the late 1960's and have never had a problem with the results. (When VERY cold out, I've experienced some problem MAKING it, more than once...)

Great question. It may be available at a Half Priced Books store, too. I saw the original version released by Fishing Facts Magazine for sale, but $25 seems pretty steep to me. I see there is a new version as well, but a lot more. Search for the knot as there are some nice illustrations as to how to tie the knot. The Palomar knot is extremely strong, but it can be too big (in my opinion) for some live bait presentations in clear water. Good luck with whatever you decide.

That is the only way to get better. Good on you both!

Sorry, forgot to add that the Crawford knot gives you immediate feedback as you tie it. As you pull the tag end it forms a perfect figure 8 as it is snugged down. If you don’t see the 8, you skipped a step. I typically use a D ring on my jacket or my zipper pull to secure the hook or lure as I tie it. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I think you’re talking about the Double Pitzen, Ben.

Wow, thanks for the "blast from the past" OJ. It sounds like I grew up in WI about the same time you did. I was obsessed with Fishing Facts when I was a kid, but I had almost forgotten about my Lunkers Love Nightcrawlers book. That book was probably the reason for all those spring and summer nights crawling around in the backyard with a flashlight in my mouth.

My go to knot is also the Trilene knot for monofilament and fluorocarbon. It is very fast and very dependable, even in very cold weather.
