Is there such a thing WH? I don't know where Clyde is and I don't know a thing about hurricanes - I live in California, we have wild fires and earthquakes. Y'all be safe down there.

Clyde is a few miles East of Abilene Texas

Any scary weather: you and yours are welcome at my house. I am in a hurricane free zone! lol

You may be in a hurricane free area but not tornadoes. I was in Baird for the one in 1949 or 1950. I have been asleep since then so not sure on year. Cross Plains grad of 1950.

A boy gave my Mother a grown cat just before I was born. It did not stay so the boy brought the cat back to my Mother. This happened two or three times. He then told Mother to put bacon grease on the cat’s feet and he would stay. She did and the cat stayed. Don’t know if the bacon grease had anything to do with the cat staying or if it just decided to stay.

Need some help diagnosing a small problem with my Mercury 25 hp 4 stroke. Great motor. Really like the displacement. Lately it has been stalling while trolling at idle/slow speed. As many as 7 or 8 times per hour. Frustrating!
Could this be remedied simply by adjusting the idle up a bit? Or ??

Any help would greatly appreciated.

I see you have gotten plenty of suggestions. Please let us all know that the problem turns out t0 be. It may help someones else greatly later. Thanks

If you have a 6 gal portable gas tank check to see if vent screw on cap is open. If not motor will run for short time and die. Will then start up and run short time and die.

The newer 6 gallon Atwood tanks do not have a screw in the cap thanks to the EPA so you will need to unscrew cap itself to check if tank as a vacuum as fuel is used and then vacuum is broken as time passes.

I would suggest checking carburetors for blow back which would indicate reeds not seating

If any of you have been watching the TV show Yellowstone you will know what I am speaking of.

When " Gone with the Wind" was shown in a theater in Sweetwater, Texas in the 1940s I was not allowed to see it because of the language used. "I don't give a Damn". You had to be over sixteen, I think was the age requirement, in any case I was not eligible to see it.

I grew up in ranch country in Nolan County, Texas. My Dad worked part time for the large ranchers in the area as most other small time rancher/farmers did to supplement their income. Most ranchers only had a hand full of full time ranch hands.

While watching Yellowstone the F word is a very regularly used word. I don't remember that being the case when I was growing up, Cursing was freely used by most ranch hands including my Dad but not the F word.

Cursing was also not used around females and small children. I was subjected to it by the other ranch hands because my Dad used curse words.

The F word has become so commonly used today you hear it every where you turn. Comedians, elected officials, many TV shows, players, and many others. You see it on clothing worn in public.

You can look up where the word came from but no one is for sure. One story goes that it originated from the " Fornication Under Consent of King, but that has not been proven. I think every language has a word meaning the same thing.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a prude and will let loose with a few curse words at times but the F word is not one that I use.

Those of you with military backgrounds will remember FUBAR but that is also a word I don't use.

Down in Louisiana swamp there were two men who disliked each other. There was a large river running between their homes and no way across if for miles. Since neither has a car they had no way of getting across the river.

On one side lived Clarence and the other side a cajun by the name of Boudreaux and his wife Marie.

Clarence and Boudreaux would spend hours yelling insults across the river at each other. Boudreaux told his wife Marie if I could just get over there I would whip the daylights out of Clarence. This went on for years.

One day Thibodeaux and his wife Clotile were visiting. They told Boudreaux that the state was building a bridge across the river near by.

Boudreaux told his wife Marie that as soon as the bridge was finished he would whip Clarence as he always said he would.

One day Marie came back from town and told Boudreaux that the bridge was finished.

Boudreaux left the to whip Clarence but returned home very shortly. Marie asked Boudreaux if he whipped Clarence. Boudreaux answered 'No" Marie wanted to know why not. Boudreaux told Marie there was a sign on the bridge that read "Clearance 14 ft" Boudreaux said he did not know that Clarence was the large.

( I was told this joke several times while stationed in the Air Force at Biloxi Mississippi)

Thanks 3Cs, for a very informative post. If I could add one thing, Auto fuel line is not Coast Guard approved for marine use and will cause you to fail any onboard inspection. Any reputable marine dealer can get you Legal ethanol proof fuel line.

I have already replied to this once but wanted to comment further. I built my first boat in late 1950s and had a Firestone 9.5 outboard motor. In first part of 1960 I purchased a 14 foot Arkansas Traveler alum boat used. Moved the motor over to that boat. In later part of 1960 purchased a used Tri Hill for boys to ski behind. So now I have two boats. In 1988 traded the tri hull in on a 1988 24 foot pontoon, Sill have two boats. Two years ago I gave the Arkansas to my eldest son. (Went fishing with him and granddaughter Saturday before last) .

Point being that here in this part of Texas there is no requirement for safety inspection other than Game Warren and Park Ranges. You have to register it every two years through the Texas Park and Wildlife Department. I understand you can request a Coast Guard Inspection and if you pass they will give you a decal to affix to you boat. If you fail they just give you a list of what you failed. It is the Park Ranges who perform inspections as I understand it.

In all the years I have owned a boat I have only had the Park Rangers approach my boat one time. I was anchored and I had all three grandchildren on board and they just wanted to know if I had life jackets for all aboard. Don't get me wrong I truly believe in safety. I have all the necessary equipment required by law.

I do not know what the difference between auto fuel line and USCG approved line but since I purchased USCG approved line I am not going to take the time to find out.

In other states and around other lakes the Coast Guard may be active but not around here.

That being said ' Watch me get inspected the next time I am on the lake". Park Ranger's boat is three slips away from mine. Great bunch of men.

That was me, sorry, but all the suggestions did not work. I think it was something in one of the jets that was clogged. I blew it out, hooked the gas line up, and ran it with muffs. It ran good, but that is without a load, so I went out this past Wednesday, (rain) and it ran fine. Once again I'm sorry, I value your input, and I hope you understand it was a time between it not running well, and running well.

thanks for the follow up. I know that on a three cylinder engine one cylinder not performing correctly will drop rpm from upper 5 thousand rpm to somewhere in the 4 thousand range. I would expect that a two cylinder would drop even more but have never worked on a two cylinder 2 cycle engine. I don't remember what engine you had.

Thanks again

You are correct. I order CG approved fuel line from Auto Zone. It is marked as CG approved. My mistake for not covering that fact
