Down in Louisiana swamp there were two men who disliked each other. There was a large river running between their homes and no way across if for miles. Since neither has a car they had no way of getting across the river.
On one side lived Clarence and the other side a cajun by the name of Boudreaux and his wife Marie.
Clarence and Boudreaux would spend hours yelling insults across the river at each other. Boudreaux told his wife Marie if I could just get over there I would whip the daylights out of Clarence. This went on for years.
One day Thibodeaux and his wife Clotile were visiting. They told Boudreaux that the state was building a bridge across the river near by.
Boudreaux told his wife Marie that as soon as the bridge was finished he would whip Clarence as he always said he would.
One day Marie came back from town and told Boudreaux that the bridge was finished.
Boudreaux left the to whip Clarence but returned home very shortly. Marie asked Boudreaux if he whipped Clarence. Boudreaux answered 'No" Marie wanted to know why not. Boudreaux told Marie there was a sign on the bridge that read "Clearance 14 ft" Boudreaux said he did not know that Clarence was the large.
( I was told this joke several times while stationed in the Air Force at Biloxi Mississippi)
