Whatever you use, don't use bleach!!!!! Bleach is corrosive to aluminum, and will turn the surface dull gray and will continue to dull even after polishing. The toilet bowl cleaner has an acid in it. Make sure it is safe to use on aluminum. If you can put the boat in water for a hour or more that will soften the scum make it easer to get off. I have gotten into the water with scrub brushes, rags and cleaners to get it clean. Don't use any rype of abrasive cleaners or products. Simple Green, any tire cleaner, or other quality cleaners will work. Let us know how things go. Keep fishing. DEEJAY

I fish a lot from around dark til 2-4 am. I keep fish, alive in the live well, when leaving to go home, I plug the live well and turn the aerator on until i get home. Then place the fish in a large plastic bag big enough that the fish will lay flat in the refrigerator. When the fish are cooled they stiffen up making them easier to filet. 8 to 12 hrs later i filet them. Never have any problem or had fish go bad. Keep fishing. DEEJAY

Hello fellow fisherman. This is my first post and its a story about fishing on the Brazos river in Texas. My dad was a great fisherman. He was raised fishing the Brazos river, the first thing he did when he returned from War World 2 was grab all his fishing gear, some food and off he went to the Brazos. My aunt told me this after he had died. She said all his brothers and sisters were coming to see and love on him. That didn't matter to my dad because he didn't wait, he had to go fishing and I don't think I ever saw anyone that was fishing with him catch more than he. Anyway this is the tale I and my dad heard, "while fishing one day my dad and I came across an old man that lived on the river. My dad knew him so we showed him some big yellow cats we had caught. The old man said yes that's a nice catch. He said he always talks to big yellow's. I asked him what did he mean? He said before he fishes around big rocks jetting out over the river he, always takes a small rock about the size of his fist and knocks on the big rock. If they are there they will answer him. My dad and I the next day walked out on this huge rock with our handheld rocks and began tapping on the rock. After about a few minutes we put one ear under the water and sure enough, we could hear them yellow's croaking. I'm 71 the fisherofmen2 and I approve of this message.

I used to fish all the time, like 3-4 days/week for 3-4 hours. Mostly wading in streams. I never had any type of pain or discomfort at all. I haven't been as much lately, maybe like 5x a year for the last few years.

I am experiencing shoulder discomfort/burning/pain after about an hour or so of casting. It's only in the left shoulder, which is the arm I reel with, and I only feel it when reeling. It gets to the point that I can barely keep reeling and really ruins fishing for me.

Any tips how to get past this? I really don't want to give up fishing. Maybe shoulder exercises? I don't know if it's just a muscle issue or something else

Go see your doctor. I was having pain in my left shoulder for about 3 years. Primary care visits I would complain to my Dr. Finally sent for an x-ray, showed nothing. Then to physical therapy, pain continues to get worse. Finally an MRI shows a toumor the size of an orange underneath my armpit. 4 MRI's later scheduled for surgery. Surgeon had to go in from the front of my shoulder because of ligaments, tendons, nerves an blood vessels behind and under the arm pit. Tumor was benign, no after effects so far after 9 months. Still haven't tested my shoulder by holding a rod and settin the hook. If that pain continues, make sure your drs do something about it. If they won't, find another doctor. Most of the pain I had came from fishing, settling a hook, the sudden motion was like a hammer hitting me. It May not necessarily wear and tear, good luck with this, prayers for you. Keep fishing. Make your own. Pick a design you like, buy a mold with a similar head, wire and hooks lead, you can buy skirts already made, hand paint the heads. You can buy wires already bent. Google " how to make spinnerbaits". Keep fishing. DEEJAY

I also tried braid when it first came out, I also hated it. At that time the individual fibwrs in braid was larger than now, I flipped and pitched a lot in brush and trees. Whenever I had line hanging over a limb the rough texrure would vibrate the line, sounded like a banjo string. Now the better lines have a smaller fiber producing a smoother line. This helps in casting distance and control. I use braid on spinning reels with a florocarbon leader and alberto knot to connect. Flipping I still use mono or floro, 20- 30 lb test. Look for the smaller fiber in the braid you choose, whatever the brand. Carry good scissors or a sharp knife to cut braid with. Don't throw the waste into the water, it will get into prop shafts and destroy the seals, gas or electric . Keep fishing. DEEJAY

Just my opinion but you don’t sound retired to me. 😂

Hey fish, looks can be deciving, I havent had a (job) since 1999. Officially retired, but not inclined. I stay busy, I cant sit around and do nothing. I choose the tasks that do, most things I do according to weather conditions. I have fished in wilting heat and cold that water in eyelets an reel would freeze making it dificult to cast. I'll soon be 73 years old and i can't handle the extreme conditions like even 10 years ago. I'm still not going to laze around. My style of fishing has evolved to being more comfortable, enjoy the day. Retired yes, still active

$23 is cheap for a shirt now. I get my spending cash from doing odd jobs, bush hogging, mowing, plowing gardens, home repairs, pluming, electrical, most any thing. I'm retired, the extra cash buys most anything I need for fishing. Don't answer, "Where did you get the money to buy that?" It's a trick question there is no justifiable answer that will satisfy the person ssking the question. Keep fishing. DEEJAY

People who don't own a boat don't know the expense of maintaining one, gas, replacement batteries, electronics, life jackets, just a few. Legal requirements, licenses, fees, cleaning, replacing broken items, especially when someone else broke it, worn out equipment. Owning a boat is an expensive TOY. I've been lucky, my best friend, always leaves money($20) in the vehicle, buys lunch, snacks, helps buy emplacement batteries, nets, anything necessary. I'm spoiled. I make most of our baits, spinnerbaits buzz baits, jigs, any hard bait that we use, 2 people can go through a lot of baits in a years time, that's a hobby also I have all the stuff to do it. If there is something he wants to try, he'll bring a picture and the material to make it.
Most of the time we have a kitty of left over cash from gas money we'll use for necessities. So all together he pays more than half of the expences. We have been partners over 40 years, again
I'M SPOILED. Keep fishing. DEEJAY

For all those who haven't tried a "plug knocker " they work, will save a lot of money on retrieved baits. I've make my own 40 years now. I use 1 that is about 3 ounces that I use on smaller line, but has no cord tied to it. Another that weighs about 8-10 ounces attached to a reel, on a short rod. I use it for heavy baits, spinnerbaits, jigs, deep diving crankbaits, flipping rigs. Very seldom lose a lure, but sometimes no matter what you do you can't get some lures back. A telescopic golf ball retrever works great also. Just take the cup off and replace it with a coiled wire to insert your line. I use the telescopic rig to get lures out of trees that are to high to reach by hand. You can reach to 15- 20 feet up, depending on how long the telescopic rod is. Keep fishing. DEEJAY
