I never liked the word fishing

I am a serious fisherman. Tarpon, bone, permit, reds, snook and yes bass and blue gills. If you fish with me be prepared to get tired and almost always wet. My favorite type of fishing is wading on the flats or various rivers. Some people like the word hunting to better describe the experience. I guess that works. But it's still missing the total experience. I have learned that 80% of all fish that are caught are in 10% to 20% of the fishing areas. Not only do you have to find these spots but then figure out your bait, presentation, equipment, etc. My greatest joys are fishing in new areas and trying to figure out where they are. So I will try to come up with a good name that reflects my experiences. Since I never keep a fish that I caught its like I am trying to put food on the table. So help me out. I am all ears.

Try catfishing, they are easy to catch and good to eat, but if your looking for a big one, that’s a different critter!

Welcome Peter. It's called fishing, not catching. the experience is learning a skill. what is the target fish? is this their habitat? read the water. what will work this time of year. You can fish for everything and not learn very much. Or you can focus on either a species (Bass, Trout, sturgeon, whatever) or on the water ,freshwater or saltwater. then narrow it down. ponds? lakes? rivers? streams? Inshore? offshore? reefs? channels? the end result should be "where are you the most comfortable with fishing?" with me it's outdoors in the water.

I think I narrowed it down to the art of fishing or the act of fishing.

Welcome to the Forum, Peter. Sorry, I can't help you, I'm too old to worry about things like that.

The best part of it is no matter what its a way to go Relax and Fish. Those two things are a must in my opinion.

Exactly my thoughts Egg. Fishing is therapy not make you need therapy. Welcome to the "Fishing" stage dude that needs a new word for fishing. Huh?

I love my Shut UP and FISH shirt from Mexico I bought for 10 bux or so.

Shut up and fish might be a better way of saying it if it makes you feel better. Some guys might take offence though. The one that appears to have Diarrhea of the mouth when they go fishing.

" Shut UP and FISH ". Is good way to say it for sure.

Peter, it’s like this. A lot of times I go out fishing just to get out of the house, away from everyone, just to clear my mind. If I catch some it’s icing on the cake. Other times I take the boys (son and grandsons). They want to catch a big ole flathead. I’m there to make memories with them all.

Me and the wife go shopping at Walmart and I pick up some lures and tackle. She says that ain’t groceries and I say to her, them are anti-depressants.

Peter, are you getting what fishing is all about yet?

Big flatheads love live bluegills I always locate a section where shallow water 10 feet goes to 30 feet quickly
and anchor somewhere in the middle. I have good luck at a place on the intercoastal waterway that has those exact dimensions. I get 4 inch live bluegills and a big circle hook.
