Bolton Landing and Hague both have fishing piers to help from shore. Smallmouth bass are the primary game in the summertime in big numbers. Night crawlers work well. Lake trout and landlocked salmon are caught on boats with downriggers on Mooselook wobblers but the peak time for their activity is May/June. Please send us a report with pictures when you return. Good luck.

I fished this area alot when I was younger because my cousins used to have a cabin in Twain Harte and we used to visit them for spring break and in the summers. The ditch is hit or miss near town, mostly miss. Lyons Lake is only very good if you get there soon after the stocking. We caught plenty of trout with salmon eggs near the docks right where the winding road ends. However we also got skunked there other times when they had not stocked recently. Your best option near there is Strawberry Lake near Pinecrest to your east at about 5,000 feet elevation. It is well stocked when trout season is open and fishing is usually good for numbers of small rainbow trout. The best bait from shore has been powerbait. Good and luck and let us know how you did.

I am sorry your party did not have any luck fishing. Sounds like you did everything right but the fish were not cooperative for those 3 days. It reminds us that’s why they call it fishing and not catching. Great photo of the adult bald eagle which are common there in the fall. The prime time for trout fishing is the spring (April/May) after ice out. The trout are in the places you went in the western part of the lake and quite aggressive in feeding especially trolling bikini needlefish.

I used to go to Happy Jacks in Azusa with my Grandpa when I was a kid. Easy time catching trout. I took my kids to a similar trout farm in Sedona a couple of years ago. Nice experience and tasty trout for dinner. Easy way to get kids into fishing when they are young and lack patience.

I caught fish shore fishing at Gull point using a Spin-a- lure(bought at the Yellowstone Lake hotel gift store. It is the favorite lure for this lake for the cutthroats. It looks like a super duper but thicker with red spots on a brass background. The fish would only bite when wind/breeze creates a wind ripple. When the water was placid no bites. If you want to catch the invasive Lakers you will to troll deep(downriggers) or vertical jigging if you find a school. Good luck.

I have fished this lake a lot for rainbow trout growing up in Orange County. September means the trout are in the western deeper end of the lake toward the dam. If you shore fish the best spot is on the north shore at the first point that juts out just east of the dam. It is directly below a small cabin on the shoreline. The best baits are inflated nightcrawlers or power sit on sliding sinker rigs. If you have access to a boat I would troll the northern shoreline from Grey’s Landing down to the last point near the dam. I caught lots of trout here on orange pattern Needlefish spoons and golden/red rapalas. The other trolling zone is the triangle from Metcalf Bay to Boulder Bay to Grey’s Landing then back. If you want catfish go to the east end of the lake to the Stanfield Cutoff and use cut mackerel or chicken livers. Good luck.

The lakers key on smelt early in the season then shiners later in the season. If you have downriggers you can troll with spoons at the proper current depth. Ask local tackle shops for the current depth. The Mooselook wobbler is the lure of choice unless you find live minnows to troll. I have had the best luck catching lakers in the Northeast with either a silver/copper/gold background spoon with a splash of fluorescent orange. The fish most fishermen target here is landlocked salmon followed by rainbow trout. Lake trout are not focused on by most fishermen in central New Hampshire lakes. Good luck.

If you want info about fishing you are probably best served using a guide due to the large size with several river arms. I would go thru the Redding chamber of commerce to find a guide for either bass or trout/salmon. I fished with a guide from Redding and we fished near the dam with a mooching technique using cut anchovies for king salmon. We caught and released 27 fish and kept my limit of 5 for eating. Trout fishing is best done in a boat trolling minnow imitations. In the spring trout are spread out. In the summer the trout are more concentrated and easier to find better numbers of fish to catch trolling with dowriggers. Good luck.

I'm new to this (fishing stage) could you have info on both lake Shavers and Huntington.

I have fished Huntington Lake and had very good success fishing in May shore fishing in the back of coves on the northwest corner where there are feeder creeks. Focus on fishing areas that have pebble bottom areas that the rainbow use to spawn. My best bait for catching nice rainbows was chartreuse sparkle powerbait. There are also big browns that are caught in May or October trolling Rapalas along the dams. Good luck.

I am very familiar with this lake having fished it alot growing up in SoCal. Currently the water temperature is too cold for catfish to be active. The spring is trout season in the west end of the lake.(Boulder/Metcalf bays/off the Zebra Room/dam) The catfish in this 7 mile long lake are best caught in the far east end of the lake near the Stanfield Cutoff and east end public boat launch in the summer when the water temperature has warmed. Use cut mackerel, chicken livers, or stink bait for bait. Good luck.

El Dorado Park lakes is stocked seasonably (winter/spring) with trout if that is the species you are looking. Unfortunately the CA department of fish and game is stocking fewer trout this year in the state because of a disease hitting trout in their hatcheries this year. Good luck.

Check the fishing regulations first. The bull trout in the lake have very strict regulations. My fishing guide I used for years in central Oregon has retired now but he showed me lots of pictures of bull trout he used to catch throwing rapala plugs from a boat toward the shoreline in March/April each year. Later kokanee salmon enter into the catch. You need a boat to access the lake for the best fishing easily due to steep shorelines. If you want more information and a good experience I would hire a knowledgeable guide first before you do it yourself. This lake has 3 long river arms and there are lots of empty water. Gorgeous scenery to enjoy while you wait for the fish to bite.
