Hi: I am fishing for catfish, for the first time, at Big Bear Lake? I would appreciate any information on this subject! Especially where to fish and which bate to use? Fishing from bank. Thanks

Voyager15: Sorry but I am ho help about location and such. If you want to catch big catfish, you need to use live bait, that what they prefer. You will need to check the laws and such of California about what you can and cannot use. So, if legal, large minnows or perch!

Smaller catfish might be enticed by other food, such as chicken livers, and such. Also, fishing at night since they are more acive then. Look for a drift, or any place that would provide a hole or den. Large cats like to have thier own personal cave or hole. Just Sayin....RJS

I am very familiar with this lake having fished it alot growing up in SoCal. Currently the water temperature is too cold for catfish to be active. The spring is trout season in the west end of the lake.(Boulder/Metcalf bays/off the Zebra Room/dam) The catfish in this 7 mile long lake are best caught in the far east end of the lake near the Stanfield Cutoff and east end public boat launch in the summer when the water temperature has warmed. Use cut mackerel, chicken livers, or stink bait for bait. Good luck.
