I’ve been using a slip knot since the early 60s and have never had it fail. I’ve hD lots of line breaks, but the knot always held. I use it to tie on lures, flies, swivels, and tie on a leader. It’s very simple and fast to tie. I don’t think there is any knot that’s easy to tie in the cold, but this one may help!

A good friend of mine owned a pontoon and I went with him a few times. Really enjoyed it.
Then he told me about his ‘nose dive’..
He said he was going fast and cut the throttle too quickly. The boat stopped suddenly pointing the nose down and it tipped up almost vertical. It finally went flat again after he lost all his fishing gear, tackle boxes, bbq grill, and it threw him overboard!!
Hence the invention of the third pontoon in the bow... Give that some thought, and tie every down!!

While casting a snake imitation (wood head and rubber body) I got a hit. It didn’t struggle, it was just hard to pull in. After I got it to the shore of the pond, I saw it was about a 10” snapping turtle. The rascal just would not let go! (He wasn’t hooked, just hung on to the snake body). My line finally broke loose, and I saw the wood snake head with about 1/2” of snake body left over. I remember thinking Well I sure hope he enjoyed his snake, and I sure was glad I didn’t try and take it away from him!!! Tight lines everyone!!

I haven’t tried many different colors, but I had good results with black and white tail with silver spinners

I agree with the above, and would add a black head jig with red and white eyes with a good minnow soft body silver and black.
A new very high performer for me was a “chatter bait” . I’ve caught bass and catfish with it... put a couple in your box of different colors..
Tight lines!

My wife hated our 20 ft Scout T top as she always got sea sick. So she suggested

Fish first until you are comfortable with the casting. Watch your back cast I’ve lost a lot flies and leader in tree limbs!!
Save the winter months for tying. You don’t catch much fly fishing on the ice😁

I’ve been fishing for over 60 years in most all different ways. I’m mostly catch and release, but since my wife does like fish, I rarely eat my own. I’ve ice fished, salt water (deep water and trolling), and have fished for most every fresh water fish from salmon to crappies. I’ve loved all of it! I’ve been “skunked” many times fishing fresh water, but after all these years I’ve never been skunked in salt water! I’ve thought about this question for much of my life and have asked dozens of people “If you could take only one fishing lure with you, and you had to count on it for food , what would you use?” I know there are many factors involved, so answer this as if you had to go now in your nearest hot spot!

If you haven’t tried a “chatter bait” give it a try. I’ve caught bass, hybrids and even 6-8 lb catfish with it! Best of luck

I fished a Burke soft body top water. It was cigar shaped about 3/4” in diameter by 3” long. It had a spinner on each end and a green frog color with a treble hook at each end. It would splat when it hit the water. Let it sit for about 30 seconds then start a slow jerk retrieve. I out fished my three cousins combined! This was back in the 1960s. Haven’t found anything even close in my 50 plus years of fishing!!! Wish I still had it!!!
