The carp looking fish was caught from Lake Limestone in Texas and the eel like fish caught in Florida- think it may be a hogfish? Not sure. Please pray for my friend from Iceland who caught the hogfish- he had a heart attack but is doing ok in hospital

Small Mouth Buffalo, common in Texas lakes.

Hi Allstar 1. I’m an avid crappie fishermen on a lake in Texas. I am considering trying Part time guiding. I really prefer part time as supposed to amateur. I have fished with many professional guides in both salt and freshwater. My conclusion is that is hard work with multiple talents involved. Being able to put clients on fish, catch limits, management of bookings, and being fun to fish with are all important.
Before I commit to charging to fish I plan to take friends, neighbors, and my brother in laws (not sure about it).
Don’t want to discourage you but it is a commitment. Good luck and fish on.

Welcome aboard Ken. I'm pretty sure he's talkin bout Lake Fork Texas. However Ken, you need to put your location in your profile so we ALL know. Thanks buddy.
As far as the crappie go at Fork. This is the time they start showin up and getting real active.
Let us know how you do AND post some pics.

The freeze caused by Global Warming LOL set crappie back a week or two. Big females were moving under docks on Lake Palestine (close to Fork) prior to BLIZZARD. Waters <50*. Five degrees and it’s on.

Braid is much thinner per #test. Heavier braid has fewer digging and backlash problems. Your good!

I use a Fitec Super Spreader with built in throw ring. Much easier to lean to throw. Academy has 4 1/2’ for less than $40. Also when that net wears out you can put the ring in a bigger & better net. Comes with instructions and several how to video on you tube.
Main thing is you don’t have to do all the folding and such. You just suspend the net from the ring in you hand, reach down and lift lift up the lead line, drape over ring, wind up and throw. With a little practice you can get perfect pancakes. I’ve been using them over 20 years.

This is a good post.... I remember when I took Raquel Welch to the Prom. Everybody wanted a picture, everybody was cutting in to dance. It was the worse Prom ever.

Hopefully Raquel went home (eventually) with you! All that matters.

I have always used a Brillo Pad to clean my cork handles. Scrubbing till clean then rinse well and dry. Brings back that new cork feel. I have never damaged a handle.
I laugh every time I see the guy that leaves the plastic covers on his/her handles. No cork feel there LOL.

I have been trying out some different ones, too. Fishing in SoCal, so warmth is only an issue this time of year (water is now in mid 50's, but gets to the 70's in the summer). I have liked the simple rubber-gripped work gloves that are a bit stretchy so they fit tight, but don't constrain. They seem to dry pretty fast once wet, but the grip helps hold onto the fish when caught.

I actually only wear one on my left hand most of the time.

I have a cheep pair of fingerless fishing gloves for fall but it’s cold here in East Texas so I put on a cheep pair of the work gloves with rubber palms and the fingerless ones over that. Almost water proof and warm. I do cut off finger tips of tying hand so I can get crappie nibbles out of the jar.

Ben. If you freeze them on a cookie sheet then vacuum seal them they want stick together. Open them take out what you want and re seal the rest.

Gordon that’s a great idea. I do that with burgers, fruit, and my dogs homemade dog food lol. Never thought about it for fish fillet. That would prevent moisture preventing a good seal on bag. Great idea! Thanks

Feed store i found them and they are only kind I buy anymore. Hands are usually toasty and could cut a finger tip off of wanted . These are 1.87 a pair. You will be amazed how toasty hands will be. I usually have a fire on shore if bank fishing for heat. If I’m in boat with rods in rod holder hands can be be in a glove.

Like Jeremy I use this type of glove but also put my summer fingerless gloves over the top of them. I crappie fish here in North East Texas from dock and boat (yes I cheat with livescope). I cut the fingertips of thumb and index finger to help get Crappie Nibbles out of the jar and on hook. Works good.

I don’t use jello marinated cut bait often, but when I do I add some Garlic Salt to the mixture.

Shallow starting in early spring.
On most lakes you can catch crappie in standing timber year round if you have lakes with timber in Arizona. Brush piles too. Live Scope makes it easier but not necessary if you have good electronics. FEEL THE THUMP!!!🎣
