Glove Wearing While Fishing

Do any of you wear gloves (rubber, synthetic, latex) while fishing during the winter? If so, what kind? I plan to do some pier fishing tomorrow and wonder if a pair of gloves would help or get in the way of casting, reeling, hooking bait, or unhooking whatever I can catch. This will be my first winder (ie cold water) attempt so I am looking for some thoughts on the matter.

What say ye?

For me gloves are a problem. I have warm gloves and can’t fish in em.
I have thin snug fitting Dewalt gloves with rubberized palms and fingers.
I can fish in these ok but they aren’t warm. Better than nothing I guess.
I’ve got arthritis starting in my fingers and the cold hurts like the dickens.
I’m interested in what the FS crew has to respond.

I have had mega Luck w/ the cheap camo or orange or green ect gloves with rubber on part or all of the palm.. at feed stores or wherever. Once you find them you will know what I mean. I use them for quadding... firewood work hunting. they are usually 3 or 5 bux. Sometimes you stumble over good stuff for cheap.

Feed store i found them and they are only kind I buy anymore. Hands are usually toasty and could cut a finger tip off of wanted . These are 1.87 a pair. You will be amazed how toasty hands will be. I usually have a fire on shore if bank fishing for heat. If I’m in boat with rods in rod holder hands can be be in a glove.

There's a new high tech glove that is supposed to be the warmest new material there is, they make a phone touch sensitive version that looks like it would do well for using a bait casting rod for trolling. I have a tough time using spinning reels with gloves unless they have thinner fingers. I'll look them up and post the name when I find it.

Good Mornin' HO.

I have tried all different types of fishing gloves and I usually end up taking them off or losing one of them. Now I have decided that if it is that cold, I don't go fishing.

Palmyth gloves that the index and thumb finger tips can flip over for more dexterity. I live in South Carolina and it does get into the thirties sometime. They have worked just fine in our coldest weather.

Rag wool gloves, I cut the finger tips off and stitch them so they don't ravel out. Warmest gloves I've run across and normally cheep, they stay warm even when wet.

Don’t use gloves but do have hand warmers in my pockets and shoes during winter months. Foot warmers great for waders/surf fishing

I’m going to go with Ivey. Wool ones with the thumb and index fingers (or all trimmed down). It seems that even if the wool gets wet, they still keep your hands warm. I think the best kind for keeping your hands the warmest are mittens because your fingers staying together keep their warmth better. I have a pair that the mitten part and thumb peels back so you can expose your finger tips. Of course when you have to stick your hand in the water 💦 this time of year to catch or release a fish, make sure you have a towel to dry your hands good before putting your gloves back on. I recently bought a neoprene pair for this reason. I have only worn them once for short bit. I have to repost to let you all know how they feel after being submerged.

These are the best answer I've found. Wool, thinsulate lined. If wool gets wert it still remains heat. You can flip the top back if you need your fingers, and if they smell like fish when you're done throw them in the washer.

Like Jeremy I use this type of glove but also put my summer fingerless gloves over the top of them. I crappie fish here in North East Texas from dock and boat (yes I cheat with livescope). I cut the fingertips of thumb and index finger to help get Crappie Nibbles out of the jar and on hook. Works good.

I was born with hands that resembles boxing gloves. There for other than just looking at my hands in gloves fishing or working is almost impossible. I shoulda took care of my hands a little better.

I fish with a pair of wool fingerless, with the rubber dots for grip. If its too cold for those, it's too cold to fish.
I have a pair of neoprene ones I used to use hunting, with the fold back trigger finger and thumb. They were good for hunting, and probably ok for bait fishing, but very hard for repeated casting due to the Velcro or folded fingertips getting caught on the line.
