Hey guys,

So I am a newbie in the fishing community, and wondering what kind of qualities do you look for in gloves? Comfort over thickness etc?

Since I’m in Florida I don’t really need gloves for warmth, but I do wear gloves so that I have some protection from the sun. I don’t want to end up with skin cancer.
So I look for gloves with an SPF rating.

Since I was on the National Hobie Kayak Fishing Team, I had access to great discounts with AFTCO and their products. They make great gloves for fishing.
Some of the key features that I like was their:
Durability - I put my AFTCO gloves through a lot and they have lasted pretty good.
Comfort - I really couldn't tell I had them on, especially the fingerless gloves.
Sun protection - Always need that!
Micro fleece sweat wipe - This feature allows you to wipe your face or sunglasses with your glove. It is a soft material that is gentle on your face and sunglasses. The material is located on the top part of your thumb area down to your wrist. - I especially love this feature :-)

Hope that information helps!

I have been trying out some different ones, too. Fishing in SoCal, so warmth is only an issue this time of year (water is now in mid 50's, but gets to the 70's in the summer). I have liked the simple rubber-gripped work gloves that are a bit stretchy so they fit tight, but don't constrain. They seem to dry pretty fast once wet, but the grip helps hold onto the fish when caught.

I actually only wear one on my left hand most of the time.

I have a cheep pair of fingerless fishing gloves for fall but it’s cold here in East Texas so I put on a cheep pair of the work gloves with rubber palms and the fingerless ones over that. Almost water proof and warm. I do cut off finger tips of tying hand so I can get crappie nibbles out of the jar.
