I want to get an ultralight setup but not spend too much money on it, some rods I’ve looked at are the Shimano sojourn, the Okuma celilo, and the fenwick eagle. How do these rods compare to each other and is it worth the extra money for the fenwick?

The Sojourn isn’t a very good rod . Not one of Shimanos best offerings. It’s ...cheap. For lack of a better word.
I don’t know anything about the Okuma
The Fenwick is a pretty good stick.
It’s been my experience that better quality equals higher cost.
Get the best tat fits your budget.

Not familiar with the Fenwick Eagle but their HMX is a pretty nice rod that can be had for around $79.

With an ultra-lite, make sure you DO NOT EXCEED THE LINE OR THE LURE WEIGHT. I would buy the one with the best warranty. They do have a tendency to go snap, crackle & pop.

I think the fish are looking for a fisherman with an UL setup, then tell their buddies “Watch this”! 😉
I love my ULs, but you have to be ready to back reel in case you hook something larger than your target species.

I have the Okuma Celilo paired with a Daiwa Regal 2500 reel, its awesome for trout and panfish. I think the pair was $100 or less.

Ben's pretty much right about price, on your choices I would go with the Fendwick.

Been using Ugly Stick long time. Got St Croix that cost $$$ and the Ugly (new series) I think was $50 ÷ $60.i can not tell the difference. Also have a light weight Ugly. My favorite = the light has a little more back bone, but very light sensitive tip. The light is my go to for bream & CRAPPIE. OLD MAN FISHING

I’ve been using Fenwick since they came on the scene in the sixties. No better rods around.
I’ve been looking at the Bass Pro Shops Micro Lite rods. Inexpensive. Worth looking into. Almost any small reel will do, the smaller the better. No stronger then 4lb test. 2lb test is better.
You didn’t say we’re you would be fishing. 6 to 6-1/2’ for lakes. 4-1/2’ for streams. 5-1/2 to 6’ would be a good medium.

I use to trouble fish. I used ul uglys also. With the uglys i had a Shakespeare ul nice rig. Ugly sticks are tough as nails. When i started bass fishing i realized they got heavy after an 8hr tournament. I upgraded as my budget allowed.

Two years ago I bought 2 Fenwick the firstEagle spinning rods .I used one five times and on a forward cast ,the rod the rod shattered just above the handle. The second rod broke at the tip in 2 places. Both rods were used less than 10 times.I've been using spinning gear for over 30 years. I'ts the first time I ever had a rod break Old Timer
