Nah ur not doing any thing wrong - it’s called fishin. Recommend u talk to people at local tackle/bait store - ask them ur questions bout local fisheries.

Doubt it’s a problem - use what u ‘ve got.
Sounds like ur line is fouled on reel. Sugguest you unroll all the line and then load under pressure all the line (keep it tight as you're reeling it). Good luck fishing, be safe use floation gear even if uknow how to swim.
