A well fished lure might, but I don't know too many fish that are snobs.

naw just fishermen who have extra cash they don't know what to do with. Actually I think in the hands of a good fisherman it may help catch more fish but for the average fisherman I doubt they will make much difference over using any less expensive good quality lure. Remember any thing will catch fish sometimes and nothing will catch fish all times. For that reason I'd rather have a selection of several good lures than have one real expensive lure.

What's everyone's definition of an expensive lure?

If you’re looking for a $ amount, I won’t pay more than $15 for a lure
If you’re looking for a particular lure, the Whopper Ploppers can get up there, but occasionally are on sale.

I’m a bass fisherman. So I can only speak for freshwater stuff..... It has been my experience that better made lures last longer than some cheapos , so in that sense, if the lures are better made , they last longer and usually cost more. But the longer they last, theoretically the more fish they will catch. I won’t name lure brands, but some are absolute junk. They crack easy, sink instead of float, require constant tuning , cheapo hooks, etc. Then there are some that are built like a tank, work great right out of the box, good hooks and really stand up to hard fishing. These cost a little more. So the question is relative in my mind.

Chuck I would agree with you and maybe the question should be do "cheapos" lures catch as much as those that cost more. now days I would say most lures I use and catch fish with cost in the $5-10 range and work fine. I would consider "cheapos" those costing in below $3-4 and as you say the blades, hooks, finish and action are usually sub par and while you can catch fish with them they usually are no where near as effective as those costing twice as much. When I think of expensive lures (again fresh water) I'm thinking over the $15-20 dollar range and for me even if, and that is a big if, they are more effective I would catch less fish with them because I would not want to lose them so I would use them less in water with very much structure to get hung up in which is where fish like to hang out.
