Hi guys looking to buy a 24 volt lithium battery maybe. these things range anywhere from $1600 to $600. Just trying to keep weight down in my boat also was wondering if anyone had any luck with these types of batteries. Thanks for your input πŸ‘

Whitey,
I took a chance and bought 3 12v 100ah lithium ions from "Dr Pepper" online for under 600 bucks. Installed them half a dozen trips back and I am amazed at the power my trolling motor has at the end of the day.... This is after long days of almost constant use looking for beds in the shallows... Trolling motor is just as strong as it is the start of a trip... Just do your research on in parallel and in series connections and on chargers.... Also, there is some controversy out there as far as using them for cranking batteries...

Guys,
Friends with a guy that installs carpet in boats on a regular basis, he specializes in boat repairs.... Soak the old carpet with acetone in an area to get it started coming up, then continue to add acetone as you work the section up... Use more acetone to clean up residue..... ALWAYS work with good ventilation!!!

We have high school classic in early May on Wheeler. Any and all information would be appreciated. Locations, baits, techniques, water depth, etc. Thanks

The water should be back up to summer pool or at least coming up... Flip the bushes and bank grass in the Decatur area....

I use to bake them in a toaster oven after I started using the torch I think I like it better

I also used a torch for applying the paint, I just baked them in case of any irregularities... probably not necessary, just the way I was tought... Irregardless, your jigs look as good as any you will see anywhere!

Glad to hear your on the mend! Don't overdo till you're at 100 percent, no hard hook sets for awhile! Catch up later...

Mike,
Those look really nice, back in the day I did a lot of powder paint for jigs (before I got lazy and went back to spray paint), I also used Harbor freight powder for basic colors, white, black, and red.... I also would bake my heads in a toaster oven after painting at 250 for 20 minutes to smooth out any irregularities... Great looking jigs!

Yes, I have a $500 "decreasing deductible" which is for collision only, not comprehensive. They're saying hitting a deer is under comprehensive so I have to pay the $500 deductible.

Sorry to hear about the deductible, let's hope it doesn't raise your rates... I hit one a couple of years ago and totaled a jeep, adjuster said it would not raise my rates and thankfully it didn't.... Good luck and thankfully you are not hurt bad or worse....

Well Doc, you're right about usin what you have confidence in. That's true in all respects of fishin.
If you are usin something you DON'T have confidence in and you aren't catchin fish, you're probly not gonna use it very long.
If you're usin something you HAVE confidence in you'll probly use it longer even if you're not catchin fish and the longer you use something you like, the odds of you catchin fish increase.

Saw,
I would be willing to bet just about everyone on here are just like me, and have a boat load or a tackle box full of stuff that was "hot" at some point but hasn't seen the light of day in years, and they have gone back to what they have been using for years... I myself am a "dragger" and fish soft plastics and jigs 90 percent of the time... Even if everything you hear says the fish are on this or that, I may try it for a while but I always drift back to what I'm comfortable with, even if I'm not doing any good on it.... But it's always in the back of my mind how quick it can turn around, and how often it has done just that... And just as you pointed out you will fish harder at what you have confidence in....

Harold,
There's an opinion for just about everyone here, and none are wrong... I generally use 15 lb mono for worm fishing and braid to a leader for just about everything else... Spinning rods are usually spooled with 20 lb braid, and 8 or 10 lb leader 10 to 12 feet long tied with a double uni knot. Casting reels 20 lb braid to 15 lb leader 10 to 12 feet... For flipping and punching, 30 to 50 lb braid depending on the cover with no leader.... For leader material, I generally use co-polomer or mono, I almost never use fluorocarbon, I have a lot of break-offs with it on hook sets and just don't have confidence in it... I would suggest rigging a couple of different rods in different combinations to find what fits you and once you find what's comfortable and works for you stick with it... As far as using the double uni knot, there's knots (such as the Albright knot) that does clear the guides a little better, but I've been tieing the double uni so many years, I can tie it in the dark with no trouble... Like I said, there's plenty of good set-ups here, read them over, try what looks good for you and find out what works and you are comfortable with..... Half of fishing is whatever you have confidence in...
Just my 2cents worth....

Kandy,
Watch your insurance, in most states a deer strike is covered under comprehensive and not collision.... Deductible will be different and should NOT affect your rates.... Just saying, insurance company would much rather put it against your collision if they can get away with it....

Doc Parris Island was not resort πŸ‘

I still remember arriving at the gate in the wee hrs of the morning.
Jan 5 66.
My first ride in a jet from Baltimore MD to Atlanta GA Airport.
Then a flight in a prop plane to SC.
Then a bus ride to paradise.

Got to the gate bus door opened n ALL HELL broke loose.

Time stood still for a period of time.
Next thing you remember is your eyes open to a new world .

In front of me was the son of Satan.
Red hair red face beating on a trash can n screaming yelling cussing.

Though sure I'd died n went to hell.
Nope just a place called Parris Island.

The place where you better learn to keep up n keep quiet.
Time to grow up kids.
Mommy wasn't there to wipe your nose or protect you.
I saw some break n cry to go home.
Not a pretty sight.

I had a leg up thanks to my old man's physical abuse
I was use to getting thumped.
I accepted the challenge n actually luvd the physical training.
Didn't enjoy the book work.

Finally graduation day.
Standing tall n full of PRIDE
I made it πŸ‘πŸ‘

Later in the squad bay a couple of us sat n had a conversation with the son of Satan.
His name Sgt FryeHe said I know y'all hated me but I had to do my best to break you.
Many of you are going to Nam n some won't come back.

There when you're told to do something you won't have time to ask why.
When I saw tears in his eyes I knew he wasn't the sin of Satan.
He was a PROUD MARINE DI
doing his best to save our butts.
I had so much respect for Sgt Frye n I do till this day.
I realized what a burden he carried on his shoulders.

Griz,
It's funny how I still remember all my DI's names and faces after all these years... I sometimes have a hard time grabbing my kids names after the covid, but Senior Lawton, SSGT Homier, and SGT Coco, just as plain as day... They must have made an impression...

There are not words to express the deep emotion I feel when regarding all of you who have so selflessly given of yourselves to protect and defend this country which I hold so dear! I know and have known several who have been ill treated not only by our people but by the government which you served. To say THANK YOU is not enough. I love you all. May God’s richest blessing and deepest peace fill your minds, hearts and spirits today and always. I AM GRATEFUL!!

GW,
Please accept my heart felt gratitude for your support and for the obvious heart felt sentiment. With that being said, I often wonder how many Vets feel as I do that I should be thankful to our great country for the opportunity to serve... Paris Island made a man of me and cemented the values my father instilled in me, the least of which being Honor and responsibility for my actions.... The skills I learned in the Corps have allowed me to provide a decent living for myself and more importantly my family... So please accept my humble Thanks to all who support our Veterans and a heart felt thanks to our great country....
Just an old Jarhead...
