Preaching to the choir with that shot of the pollen !
I had pretty much forgotten about pollen while living "in town" for the last 8 years. Now that I live in the forest once again...."why, oh why did I go for dark colored (Forester-dark grey...Audi TT-dark green, though usually covered...F250-dark brown/tan) vehicles ?"....hehehe.
Looks like someone flew over my property in a cropduster with yellow talcum powder trying to get an even coating on everything !!!!

And I probably should buy some stock in Scotties or Kleenex...might see a return on my investment from all my purchases lately !

Sounds like fun. I am looking forward to giving them a shot in the pacific Northwest. I have a feeling the ling cod may be impressed by their seductive dance.

That sounds interesting. I will look forward to hearing if you have any success.
I think you may be on to something. Having never fished for lings, but having a friend who has me lined up to go with him soon, I am all ears on any tips. He is possibly of a like mindset maybe, as he is tying massive streamers to entice lings to his fly rod.....??? Who knows ?
....I'm game for whatever.

I have gone to an AGM "scooter-type" 12v battery....6"wx7"hx8" long...about 22lbs...35amphrs.....Duracell brand Deep Cycle from 'Batteries+' store. About $95, last time I bought. I use one in a small Igloo Playmate cooler to carry & transport, stashes on boat easily, runs a 34lb thrust Watersnake trolling motor 4-6+(?)hours, no problem on my Sea Eagle 285fpb. I have 2 on my 12' Livingston, using a 50lb Minnkota...rarely have to use second one.
For the money and size/weight, can't do better, imho. Certainly beats the hell out of a size 24 or 27 and far less $$$ than lithium.

The solvent basis of nail polish is acetone, extremely fast-dissipating from liquid to gas in sometimes mere seconds. If the "hard as nails" product was still out-gassing much beyond a few min, it must contain a solvent that I am unaware of.
As a furniture craftsman for nearly 50 years, having used pretty much EVERY finish/solvent combination available on the market, I can say that the only lingering solvent odor I have encountered, is when I have used a "retarder" with "conversion varnish", a lacquer-type/acid catalyst activated 2-part finish. Even then, a few hours to a couple of days for enclosed components like drawers, and the odor is negligent to non-existent. I suppose that if he put the newly coated flies in a box immediately after applying, the feathers and such "could" possibly absorb the scent and hang on to it. But that's highly unlikely. I propose that the OTHER COMPONENTS of his tying are the culprits..."shimmer" and some yarns could be responsible. (Or even the box, itself.)

Perhaps your friend could spread out the offending flies, thin some of the "ProCure" water-based scent and put it in an atomizer and spray them down well.....dry thoroughly, and put in a separate box.....idk. Would seem a waste of tying time and materials to just toss 'em. Or maybe set that box open on a sunny & breezy day for awhile. 9 times out of 10, the culprit is an unknown or ignored/overlooked factor.

Have no idea about Swahili, I only know that my Scottish great-grandparents must have loved the name. My grandmother was named Lulu Belle...born in 1883.

Truly concur, Wulffy.
And how did you get a picture of my new house's backyard ?....lol
I may have to drive 30 minutes+ to get to a "real" grocery store or a hardware store, but have yet to hear any car alarms going off, no interstate rumble, no sirens or loud "fart cars"....just a lonely hoot owl at night.
Loving living rural once again and at the northern end of a 10 mile long lake that is the Rogue River's only impoundment until you reach the Pacific ocean.
Life is good amongst the tall pines and fir trees...I will never take it for granted.

Might wanna NOT use voice-to-text next time, especially when it's the heading...hehehe.

And here I thought you might be using something in a "pumpkin color" or even pumpkin as a bait somehow....oh well.

Not familiar with those rivers, sorry.
However, my buddies tell me that they are PLUNKING on the Rogue at Gold Beach with daily success, so the crop coming in is amenable to the technique this year. They're using Spin-n-glo's and 3-5oz weight, about 30'-50' from shore.

Good luck !!

Big fan of nail polish from the Dollar store. Lots of variety including many versions of "sparkle" (big flakes, fine "pearl",etc. even multicolored glitter) as well as every color and clear topcoat that is pretty much bullet proof....$1.25.

Good tip and I concur. I almost always have better luck with "a tail" of some sort. Have even run a couple of "experiments" using Panther Martins with and without. Much better hookup ratio with maribou/hair/flash. Plus, with the new water-soluble scents that don't effect the action of maribou etc.(won't mat like oil-based do), adding scent certainly helps as well.
Thanks again for the tips...gonna change out some spinners to clip flies on behind....great thought.

Aaahh...the North Umpqua, I presume.
Some of the best pics I have seen of steelies, come from there. Have a friend that caught a 22+lbr on the N. Umpqua.
Great pics and thanks for sharing a bit of why I moved to Oregon 40yrs ago....ain't no fish like that, nor background scenery as beautiful, in my previous home state of Kansas/KCMo area.

How were you fishing, gear-wise ? Drifting weighted big-ish soft beads with an 8wt fly rod has been working down here on the Rogue. As has Bobber-doggin with bait, spinners, and wet flies or beads. Heard of one that was pulling small Flatfish plugs, and another that was side-drifting worms from the bank. But that was before we had all this rain lately. Bank full and then some !
Always interesting to check out the various methods used. TIA for letting us know how you were rigged up.
