Hello stagers,
I have a unique fishing lure that needs painting.
It's a plastic crank bait.
My question is:
Can I use Testers model paint or should I opt for a specialty designed paint sold in catalogs such as Barlows or Net Craft?
Would either one make a difference or be more environmentally safe?

Where do you find testers model paint anymore?

I haven’t seen any stores or shops selling models in over 20 years I think

Places like Hobby Lobby or Michaels still sell testers paint---was going to be my answer BUT I looked it up on Hobby Lobby to be sure. I am wrong. Rustoleium bought Testers and discontinued it because it was a money loser. Other companies still produce some colors for model planes. No mention of fish lure paint.

Okay I looked it up and Testers model paint is no longer made.
I do know several people who still put together and paint models.
Let me rephrase the question.
Does it make a difference to paint if a fishing lure is painted with model paint or special paint made for fishing lures.

That is sad, testers paint for models was a big part of my childhood, that and Tyco HO scale electric trains ( which are also no longer made) you can still find used ones for an outrageous price compared to the ones I used to wreck

I’ve often thought of painting lures with whatever paint was available and then using an epoxy clear coat on top

I pick up clearance priced nail polish at the drugstore. A myriad of colors including glitter colors. Can get for as little as $.25/.50 per bottle.

I made many model 60's muscle cars. I didn't use the traditional colors for the body. I tried new colors. I had my permanent model table set up in the basement so I could come and go as I wanted and didn't have to put my "stuff" away. Uncle T you just pulled me back to a part of my youth I forgot about. Did you have the big Testers plastic sheet to cover your work area?

Yes I did, I forgot about that until you mentioned it, I did my models in the living room usually on the coffee table but I would use a tv tray table sometimes, one of those metal folding ones remember?

I also used to use parts of different models such as bigger wheels from one to use in place of the stock wheels of another

I'll guess the metal folding tray had flowers on it.
