Sorry, flatheads have pale tips on their tail fin but they do have somewhat rounded tails.

I agree with Artifoo, this is a bull head. in addition to everything Artifoo said, Bullheads have squared tails, like the fish in the picture. Flat heads and channels have forked tails.

Sunfish include Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, Redear Sunfish and Rock Bass. This is a Pumpkinseed which has dark, rigid gill flaps similar to bluegills. They have a red spot on tip of the gill flap. Pumpkinseeds can be distinguished from bluegills by the aqua-blue lines that radiate from the mouth and nose and typically a bright orange belly. Pumpkinseeds are typically “taller” from belly to dorsal fin than bluegills.

Hope this helps.

Put a bunch of the big red worms on the hook. Make sure you have enough weight to get the bait down to the bottom and resist the current somewhat. any bait should work, the smellier (?) the better.

Flyguy, all the Great Lakes are excellent fisheries. If you plan on coming to fish Huron, I suggest that you go to the weekly Michigan DNR fishing report that comes out every Wednesday. It gives the latest information about fishing conditions in all the Michigan regions and especially the Great Lakes. It is a great source and has pretty reliable information about lake conditions and what is being taken from each major body of water (inland lakes and rivers included). It also has all the rules, regulations, etc for Michigan fishing.

I agree with Tom, let them get off their beds. It's not really much of a challenge to get them when they are protecting their beds. They have enough natural predators to fight off, so let them do their job until they are off their beds.

I hope to get to Maumee for the first time this year. Any other tips you can share? I have never caught a walleye and that is definitely on my bucket list for this fishing season.

I don't have that particular UL, but I have caught plenty of Bass using mine. I was not specifically fishing for Bass with it though.
