How would Mother Superior know what the bishop’s slippers look like?
Changing The oil(s) in a car or an outboard is the cheapest - and best - thing you can do for it. It is not recommended to leave contaminants in the motor from the combustion chamber in the engine where they can have a corrosive effect. Changing the lower unit oil not only replaces used lubricant but also gives the opportunity to see if any water is present in the lower unit from a leaky seal. It doesn’t take much for mono or braid that gets wrapped around a prop to work it’s way past the oil seal at the back end of the gear case. Any water present can raise hell with your bearings.
I think I paid around $109 for this rod from Bass pro shop.
I use a St. Croix 6’-6” trout series rod— very sensitive. Although I mainly target trout, I pulled in 17-1/2” 3 lb. largemouth bass with it this past weekend so it’s quite strong too. I have also pulled in number of 20” pickerel with it this season and this rod just doesn’t quit! I have it paired with a 2500 Daiwa BG loaded with 10 lb. power pro braid and a 6 lb. flourocarbon leader. Couldn’t be happier with this setup.
Hi jrbatte! I fish small lakes in southeastern ct for trout and crappie. Where are you from?
Daiwa bg - fabulous, smooth all purpose reel. Bought 2500’s for my wife and son for Christmas, and bought one for myself just the other day. My son fishes for bass, my wife panfish, and I fish for trout.
I need some help selecting a good line winder device for putting line on Spinning and baitcasting reels. Removing the line would be very desirable too! What is your recommendation? Thanks in advance!
Try a st croix “trout” light or ultralight- sizes range from 5’-4 to 7’; weights on some models as low as 1/32 oz lures. Excellent rods and only about $110 - very sensitive and plenty of backbone.
I have a 9.9 merc on my boat which is thru-bolted to the transom. I tried two different outboard motor locks (the type that slide over the screw handles and have a padlock that drops through the bars of the lock). The first one didn’t fit and the second one barely fit but I still wasn’t satisfied. I replaced the whole thing with a large heavy Masterlock padlock with a hardened boron (I thiink) shank that is about 5/16” thick which I put through the handles of the turn screws. They cannot loosen with the padlock in place. An enterprising thief may be able to free the motor eventually. Hopefully in the meantime he is caught or scared away. That’s probably the best you can hope for.
Hey Fishing Fool! What’s the brand/model of that thermometer? Sound great!
I have been a professional carpenter for 45 years and I have yet to encounter any adhesive in which it is ok to apply to painted wood. Generally speaking adhesives must be applied to bare wood for best results. I would staple the fabric on the underside too.
Any of the typical spinners are excellent—Roostertail, Blue Fox, Panther Martin, Mepps. I always start the season with a good selection of spoons—Phoebe is one of my favorites. I am also very fond of the Mooselook Wobbler from Maine. When it comes to spoons color may be just as important as the type. Last year early season I had a lot of luck with orange. Good fishing!
I haven’t decided yet, but welcome your offer to help set it up. Will keep you informed!
Thanks to everyone. It appears I’m on the right track.
