I am replacing the bunks on my boat trailer and I already painted the wood. Has anyone had experience gluing carpet to painted wood and what adhesive did you use and how successful were you.
Thanks Steve
Used a staple gun, folded the carpet over and stapled it on the back side, with long staples, worked good!
I did the same with pressure treated 2x6. It has held up just fine going on 5 years now.

I use Stainless Steel Screws with SS finishing washers. Never tried glue.
Contact cement works good.

Hey BM. I also did mine with a staple gun. That's how they came from the factory.
I suppose you could also use some glue, but the staples work just fine without glue.
Why use glue? Use a staple gun and you don't ever have to worry about it coming lose. Just Sayin...RJS

You can get stainless steel staples, and also ones made from Monel. That's what I used on my Saltwater boat.
You can probably rent a staple gun from a hardware store. There not cheap. And something you won't use alot. I bought one to redo my brothers boat trailer bunks, and have done trailers for friends. There talking bigger than normal Staples. And it doesn't hurt a thing to use glue and Staples. But if only one,go with Staples.
Get Stainless. Staples if using Carriage bolts use stainless. I have seen many bunk trailers with no carpet so you can keep a better eye on the 2x6 or whatever the bunk is. If it is rotten inside carpet YOU may never know until it pokes a hole in boat. Nobody wants a bunk that is bunk. :)
Carpet is supposed to be Bear by the fireplace if you ask me. To relax on after a good day of fishing.

It you decide to go the staple way, make certain that the staples you use are “Stainless Steel” .

I use treated lumber, carpet glue and stainless staples and stainless hex head screws to fasten the bunks
