Fred.... that's mighty fine advice. Saved me from giving it and once again proved great minds think alike! 😁😁😁

See “Ultimate Bunk Boards.” Very well engineered permanent solution to bunk board rot. Much easier loading/unloading.
If you used pressure treated there is no need to paint. No need to glue, just staple. Be sure to use stainless steel staples. I got mine from Home Depot and they have been good for years.
I wouldn't use regular carpet. That will hold a lot of water and keep the wood wet longer. Go to a boat shop and you'll see rolls of material for carpeting your bunks. It's already the right width which is convenient, and it's made of a synthetic that's woven in such a way that water will run out of it more quickly than it would from a regular carpet.
Last time I replaced I used Trex and glued the carpet and then stainless screws and washers under the rails.
I found a very nice plastic material to cover the bunks. The brand is Caliber Item 23050. Includes screws and end caps. Boat winches onto trailer easier than carpet, too. Took about 3 hours to install with boat jacked above trailer.
Caliber item from Amazon.
If you have already painted the PT boards with anything other than an epoxy, it's doubtful that ANY glue will be beneficial....it will stick to the paint "film" only. ("Bare" wood, treated with a product like "Daly's Ship 'n' Shore", allowed to thoroughly dry, would have been far preferable).... not a big fan of "pressure treated lumber", bogus claims perpetrated on the public, imo....ie: make a single cut or drill a single hole and "protection" is hopelessly compromised, just sayin'.
If you wish, however, to keep the carpeting in place (taut) while stapling or screwing, a good and easy product is 3M's "77" a very decent choice, but not strong enough to use solely.
Totally concur with using non-rusting fasteners and non-absorptive carpet, regardless.
Good luck !
use roofing staples with plastic on bottom side of bunk
It sounds great, but pulling the carpet tight, and making it stay while the glue dries, well.....If you use both that would be ideal, but brings up the cost. Now, not being mean, I did this myself, just staple with SS staples, and be done. I also fold the part inside, so as to go thru two layers of carpet, not just one.
I have used galvanized roofing nails to secure the carpet to the rails. You could apply glue on the top of the rail in order to hold it in place until you nail the flaps in place.

I am replacing the bunks on my boat trailer and I already painted the wood. Has anyone had experience gluing carpet to painted wood and what adhesive did you use and how successful were you.
Thanks Steve
I took bunks off mounts and used crown staples on under side. Has held up for more than 6 years

Welcome Seafox. Where you been hiding. Been a long time hearing from you. I have a 17 Seafox and love it. Gordon
Than you everyone that responded! I am going to use stainless staples and bolts.
