Live bream, the bigger the better!!!! Also believe or not, you can take trimmings off a full brisket, melt it down and take the liquid and mix with melted DIAL soap, make balls, and put a hook in each before the soap settles... use on trot lines, and Bush hooks in the rivers!!!!!
Lol... yea but trust me though.. between gas , bait, beer, food, and tackle.. those 50 mile trips cost about $800-$1200 each trop with your own boat... how I know???? Lol... but 25-30 mile Tripp’s for black bass, triple tail, and trigger fish ... only costs me about $100-$150
Hey brother. We’re going in 2 weeks in Beaufort to deep hole throw for shrimp.. I throw a 10’ dolphin taped.... just seeing if you ever thrown for em deep??? These shrimp will average 12 count.. if y’all would like to follow us out, let me know. Can always use more friends that love fishing... were fixing to head to the beach here in Myrtle to catch sand fleas today with the kids to catch drum tomorrow
Nice catch brother.. do you cold smoke the fish or hot smoke?? What kind of wood do you use??? Going to catch some Red and Black Drum tomorrow.. thinking about trying some on the smoker. Thanks
I completely agree with EGGHEAD.... the best thing that we do is that we order the molds, and go to construction companies and ask about angle iron or other metals that are messed up... even ACE hardware, True Value, Lowe’s, Home Depot, and other warehouses that stock rebar always have pieces that are “unusable” .... u can buy these cheap!!!! Good luck brother
Hey. Yea here in SC the limit is 3 fish per fisherman. There’s not a size limit in federal waters, but 12” inside the 3 mile mark
We call ‘em Mudfish down here in SC. When you catch ‘em, you need to blues em out immediately. These fish differ greatly though if you catch it in stagnant water (etc.... lakes, ponds....) or if you catch it in running water (etc.... rivers, streams...). When they come out of running water they are really mushy meat, and those caught in lakes and ponds the meat is firm and white/yellow tint.... but they eat about like a catfish.. just keep in mind that as soon as you catch it, cut it behind the gills and bleed the fish ASAP!!! Frying the fish in nuggets is thee best way I think to cook it
We’ll be there 0645 Saturday morning
Apache. Yes the blues are so thick it’s ridiculous!!! Caught 12 on shrimp, which really happens... Spanish are being caught on jigging rods
Unfortunately everything drops off from the piers after the spot run, but big black bass 22-26” fish come in to only 15-20 miles instead of 35-50 miles offshore.... trout also step up their game in November.. best news is that the local oyster starts October 1st!!! By mid November with the water temp dropping, they get better and better!!!! Go for clusters out of Georgetown Seafood!!! It’s worth the drive and price
I used to work for CSX in Charleston out of Bennet Yard, then Hamlet, Savannah, and then back in Bennet Yard
Btw, we caught most of the spots and whiting on bloodworms, and most of the pompano on local shrimp!!!!
So.. If anyone is near the Myrtle Beach area and wants to have a great time, then head to the local peir. Saturday, I caught 43 spots, 24 whiting, and 57 pompano in 5 hrs. Sunday I took my girlfriend and together we had 76 spots, 52 whiting, and a whopping 93 pompano in 10.5. 2.5 hours of that I spent filleting every single fish.. when I finally got done, my girlfriend asked why I was putting the knives away??? I told her I was done with 2 2gallon bags full of fillets... she opened the cooler and had caught an additional 17 spots, 3 whiting, and 24 more pompano... I handed her the knives and told her it was time for her to practice... only the second time cleaning fish, and she filleted all 44 fish by herself!!!!
I don’t know if you’ll have to come further south, but that’s going to be slap dead in the middle of our annual Spot run!!! They are smaller fish, but they are absolutely delicious, and limit is 50 per person. We usually limit out in about 2 hours to 2.5hrs.... blood works due the trick
That’sa devils horse. If you come by a bunch of them, would love to buy some
