I am jealous of all the varieties of fish the coastal fishermen have to go after. Don’t get me wrong there as we do have some great fishing just not all the variety. Do you agree or disagree? Feelings about my statement? Blurt out and let me have it😂😂😜

Are you talking just fresh water? If not look at the amount of water,

We're often jealous of what they don't have. I'm jealous of people who have beautiful trout streams. We dream or we travel. That's why I have 5 fishing licenses.

I hear people say they go out up to 50 miles from shore to catch fish. Some days we drive 120 - 150 miles one way just to go fishing in some of our favorite waters with hopes of catching maybe 1 or 2 variety of fish. Not complaining by any means or wouldnt do it.

As my dear departed pappy used to say ‘ it’s all good, just some are better ‘.
Of course, he was talking about women.🤪

Good morning Hunt
Salt snd fresh are just very different fishing. We have gone 100 miles or more offshore into the Atlantic. Its about a 5 hour ride, we leave early in the morning, stay overnight and come back next afternoon. Thats 2 days of fishing and there have been times we have not caught a fish. There are other times we have caught several tuna and shark ranging from 40 to 300 lbs. with the possibility of 1000 lb. Tuna. That's not to say one type of fishing is better. They are just very different in my opinion and we do what is accessible to us. I no longer have the offshore opportunities so I am trying to learn freshwater. Tight lines my friend.

Must be nice to have such financial freedom, which is the
one thing I am jealous of; just never had that kind of fishing opportunity, even when I lived
only 40 minutes from the
coast !
I seldom had the finances to even afford a party-boat excursion for
a day, much less a fishing charter for stripers or 'blues' ! Things are slightly better now; I have a trip planned for early March, and will (hopefully) make it to our outing
in May, but trips like that take months of planning and saving; spur-of-the-moment trips are few and far between (even short overnight, local trips), as a Social Security budget doesn't allow for much ! Still, I'm glad that SOMEONE gets to enjoy such freedom ! Tight lines to you, whenever/wherever you
go !

Well, I put together a trip for 4 where we flew from Houston to Maimi, and from there to Manaus, Brazil, then on the guide's houseboat up the river at least 50 or more miles, all in all around 3,600 miles from home. All to catch and release a peacock bass! Was it worth it? Absolutely!

I have been salt water fishing for 16 years and I love the varieties of fish we have but I will tell you I miss Lake Erie where the Detroit River dumps in more that I would miss the Atlantic. We had about 6 fish I targeted but what fish they were. When I'm lucky enough to dream of that place it all comes back. I get to have some pretty good dinners here but not like I had back there.

Hemihappy: Fellow, you have hit fishing as I know it, right on the head! I often catch my self thinking about a particular trip, an event, or a single fish, that i remember catching as clear as if it just happened. Your trip is not over when you get home. There are flash backs and those are almost as good as the first time.

I can still see my first tarpon, jumping high in the air, taste the salt spray, all those things again. So, what is the cost? Negligable compared to the life long benefit.

Also, I was seated on a swivel chair in the back of a john boat, I was walking the dog with a top water lure while watching my partner land a small butterfly bass. Then realizing I was about to have my lure at my rodtip, I look down. There was nothing but a huge hole in the water where a large Peacock Bass had taken my lure.

I roll over on to my knees as I release my shimano reel to allow the fish to swim freely and not get into the outboard motor. I let it swim maybe 20 yards away before engaging the reel and fighting the fish. We landed it eventually and it was a 19 lb. Peacock, my personal best. That is a movie in my brain that I often replay. Just Sayin....RJS

Yup those movie memories, or moving memories of a certain fish or hunt are what life is truly about.
