Say, for example, I wanted to fish over an area of water several thousand meters deep in the middle of the ocean, would I be able to without being penalized? That is to say I had all the relevant licensing for the boat. This might seem like a stupid question but I can't find anything online.

U.S. Territorial waters extend out to 200 hundred miles. But the real issue is that most regulations apply to where the fish is Landed and not where it was caught. For enforcement purposes, you have no way of proving where you were fishing. The only thing that is provable is where they are landed. Unfortunately, there are too many unscrupulous fishermen that would just say that they were fishing someplace that was legal.

As we are getting close to saying "goodbye" to the 2021 fishing season, I was reflecting on the various opportunities we all may have had throughout the past season to enjoy the great outdoors. This is an invitation for folks to upload some special photos they took which could be especially enjoyed by "new members" on the Forum/Stage, as well as to rekindle memories of your own...even though you have probably seen these photos before.

The subjects could vary in a wide range...fish, scenery, etc.

Have fun sorting thru your 2021 archives!

Good way to review our blessings for the year. Always good fishing at Langara Fishing Lodge (North end of B.C.).

Lee here, a 75-year young angler that just dusted off his 50-year old fishing gear and is looking to try his luck around Seattle. I typically fish from shore but also have a kayak and small dinghy. Any thoughts on where to wet a hook? Maybe form a site “Topic” to share tips? 😊

Not much going on in Saltwater this time of year. Unless you want to try your hand at nighttime squid fishing, from some of the local docks.

Another post lead to talk of years of fishing experience.

Specific question is how many years of experience is there among our 10 most seasoned members?

I’m thinking 500-700 years easy! Post your years of experience and I’ll keep a tally and post our top ten at the end.

The simplest is plain table salt.

You really should take it to a State expert. If it is one of our Washington Killer Hornets, it is a big deal.

Finally able to get from Washington into British Columbia. Very successful fishing Trip to Langara Lodge, on the very North tip of the Hadai Gwai Island chain. Weather was great and the fishing hot. Limits of 20 lb. Chinook, Coho, Lingcod and Halibut. Strongly recommend this lodge for those looking for some great fishing.

you picked a good year to start. On odd number years we get a big run of pinks into the sound and up the rivers. I live north of you so not all that familiar with the rivers down your way but if you go into Cabela's in lacy and ask they most likely you tell you where to go and what to use.

The Chinook salmon will be returning to local rivers in big numbers through the next 6 weeks. Good fishing in front of rivers in saltwater (highest numbers return to the Nisqually river) and also bank fishing in rivers as the salmon move upriver.

Any recommendations on king salmon lures in area 7 of the Puget sound?

Be careful of the regulations, they just closed some areas up there by emergency regulation, due to exceeding the annual quota.

I assume the rig would be the same they use up here in Washington. Most use spreader bars with enough weight to keep you line straight down - usually 32oz in 400 ft. of water. The hook end can either be just two hooks with herring chunks, or you can use a "skirt", that helps attract the fish. My preference is a 7" Green-Glo jumbo skirt. Since Halibut mostly find food by smell, I always like to add some herring scent on the skirt and weight.

A few other tips - Halibut bite best around a current change - not a tide change, but when the "current" is slowest. Use a pulsing reverse to help stay over your line, so it is going mostly straight down. Bounce bottom, but don't drag bottom - this helps attract Halibut, but most importantly, it will minimize tangled lines.

Good luck and post some pictures.

Any action for Salmon

Hey Terry, it's too early for the Fall Chinook runs to be showing up (usually mid July they start to show). I haven't checked for a few years, but if they still release Spring Chinook from Minter Creek hatchery, they pass through in May and June. Primary spots are the West shore of the Narrows and around the corner to Wollochet Bay. Then Green Point, just at the edge of Carr inlet, they seem to hold in about 80 ft of water, and near the bottom. Most of the action in area 13 is currently on Lingcod. 1 or two Lingcod for every dozen boats. It's beautiful on the water right now, just not good "catching".

Wave when you go by Chambers Creek.
