Can anyone identify this hornet?

While I was taking the photo of the mushroom this guy buzzed me several times. icked up a stick and luckly knocked him out of the air. Mean looking dude about 1 1/2 " long.

A very large stinger. I've seen a few around the house lately just got lucky and knocked him out of the sky on approach.

Looks like the murder hornet they are having in Washington state. Google it and it looks like the one you hit. They are brutal 1/4 inch stinger that can sting thru a normal bee suit. They've shown it on our TVs in the San Diego area for quite awhile now.

I sprayed a couple the other day with wasp spray that usually kills on contact. These guys just shook it off and flew away.

I believe you are correct....not good if they are this far east

Yeah that thing don’t look like any yellow jacket I’ve ever seen. Yellow jackets are yellow. Pretty knarley looking creature.

Son of a "Bee". That sucker's big. I'd say you hit a homerun brother.
Good thing it wasn't a swing and a miss. He might have gotten pissed off.

You really should take it to a State expert. If it is one of our Washington Killer Hornets, it is a big deal.

You might want to contact the dept of agriculture or ?? One hornet can wipe out a whole hive of Honey bees. They are supposed to be very aggressive.
