I haven't caught a Pike since I left Wisconsin in the early 70's. I am envious.
Bikini pond in Mayer park for trout power eggs work good
Bikini Pond and Taylor Lake have decent trout fishing and stocking I think is scheduled for April. Further south in the Wamic area, Pine Hollow and Rockcreek get stocked and have good fishing. Some of the back ponds along side the freeway have decent panfish and bass fishing too.
Mah Hah Outfitters does a good one day raft trip on the John Day for bass.
I just started reading "Surf Fishing" by Bill Varney Jr. It looks like it will be a good resource and should have some ideas for you. I bought mine off ebay.
I tried to find a fishing buddy, but got shut down.
I prefer Power Eggs, they stay on the hook MUCH better and can catch three or four trout on the same two eggs.
I am in Key West for two weeks

Carp are pretty bony so pressure cooking would solve that. I did it once where I smoked the carp and then pressure cooked and canned it. It was actually quite good. There is a large dark fat layer in the center of the filet that you definitely want to remove. On one batch after smoking and getting ready to pressure cook, I pour a little Yukon Jack in the jar. That really came out good.
Been there a couple of times fly fishing. Once on Lake Pleasant with guide, it is a big lake. The second time the guide took us to a huge senior complex with very many ponds surrounded by sidewalks. We did spot and stalk carp fishing with fly rods. Had a ball and it was the only time my wife did not complain about me not bringing home any of my catch. There are supposed to be some good streams up by Sodona, but they were a little too technical for three of us and the guide to try to fish.
I like Power eggs, I can catch 3 or 4 fish on the same eggs and they always seem to produce. I use a slip sinker with about15 - 18" of line under it and the Power Eggs float so it holds the bait off the bottom.
Just remember that with salt water, the uglier the fish, the better it tastes.
I load a 12' Portabote on my wife's Equinox to haul behind the motor home. It weighs about 90#. She has a roof rack to I pick up one end and get it on the cross bar and then get the other end and slide it forward. I am only lifting about half the weight since one end is always on the ground or on the roof rack. By the way, I am 73.
Can't access the navel base. Was going to enlist in 1970 but the draft started and I got 314 and was never called.
